BACKGROUND: Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) can frequently be observed in patients with severe inflammatory response. It is still correlated with a poor prognosis. Activation of coagulation activity leads to occlusions of small vessels resulting in various organ failure symptoms. In addition, secondary fibrinolysis leads to an increased risk of bleedings and means a therapeutic dilemma. Here, we present a case of a 61-year-old Caucasian man with a severe case of DIC and its clinical complications.

PURPOSE: To describe a case of severe Purtscher-like retinopathy during an episode of septicemic diffused intravascular coagulation (DIC) in a child with severe nephrotic syndrome.

We report two neonates with anemia, hemoperitoneum, and bilateral palpable abdominal masses. Both developed bleeding: a hemoperitoneum in one and visceral hemorrhages secondary to disseminated intravascular coagulation in the other. The following case describes the dental effects resulting from a case of meningococcal septicemia which caused a disseminated intravascular coagulation and premaxillary osteomyelitis at age two years. The effects went unnoticed for eight years when delayed development of the maxillary incisors was noted. Treatment involved surgical removal of the dental remnants and provision of a removable partial denture. Implants and ridge augmentation will be considered in early adulthood.

Initially, differential diagnosis hesitated before thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (Moschowitz' syndrome), given the presence of grave microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia as a major symptom.
