BACKGROUND: Distal tibial epiphyseal fractures damage to epiphyseal growth plate. Epiphyseal growth arrest (EGA), reflex sympathetic dystrophy and ankle joint stiffness may also occur after distal tibial epiphyseal injury. This study aims to evaluate the role of trauma mechanism, fracture pattern and fixation technique on clinical outcomes and EGA in the surgically treated distal tibial epiphyseal fractures.
METHODS: Twenty seven patients who underwent surgery for distal tibial epiphyseal fracture between the 2011 and 2017 were evaluated retrospectively. The effects of trauma mechanism, fixat

BACKGROUND: With rising participation in youth sports such as baseball, proximal humeral epiphysiolysis, or Little League shoulder (LLS), is being seen with increasing frequency. However, there remains a paucity of literature regarding the causes, natural history, or treatment outcomes of LLS.
PURPOSE: To analyze the demographic, clinical, and diagnostic features of a population of LLS patients, with an emphasis on identifying underlying risk factors for the development and recurrence of LLS after nonoperative treatment.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
METHODS: A department

Slipped capital femoral epiphysis usually occurs in children going through a pubertal growth spurt, possibly because the immature proximal femoral physis is unable to bear the shear stress. It commonly occurs in adolescents between 10 and 16 years. Slipped capital femoral epiphysis in adults is uncommon, with only 10 cases reported in the literature. This article presents a case of a 29-year-old man with craniopharyngioma diagnosed when he was 19. He underwent surgery with subtotal tumor excision and postoperative radiotherapy, but received no further treatment for the panhypopituitarism conco

The Knowles pin has been well recognized in fixing slipped capital femoral epiphysis. When these pins are left in place for a long period, it is very difficult to remove them during total hip arthroplasty, because the pins have fluted threads, which are oversized in the end and allow bone growth in the previously threaded slots. We present a simple and novel technique to remove Knowles pins so that both unnecessary trauma to the lateral femoral cortex and operating time is reduced significantly.

Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is a common adolescent hip disorder. The etiology of SCFE includes biomechanical and biochemical factors. SCFEs are classified as stable and unstable and are more common in boys than girls and in certain racial groups; most children with SCFEs are obese. Bilateral SCFEs may have a simultaneous or sequential presentation. Imaging studies show a posterior slip of the epiphysis relative to the metaphysis, seen early on lateral radiographs. The most common and effective initial treatment for stable SCFEs is in situ central single-screw fixation; other optio

A rare case of familial slipped capital femoral epiphysis is discussed. Of total five siblings four were affected. All the cases, except one boy, were treated in the Orthopaedic Department of the Medical University Pécs. The fourth affected child was treated conservatively because of the consecutive osteoarthritis, the other three were treated operatively. The literature is reviewed. The possible etiological factors are discussed emphasizing the role of heredity and it can be concluded that the endocrine constitution predisposing to epiphyseolysis be hereditary.

The authors present a group of 16 adolescents suffering from coxa vara treated in the years 1967-1987 for a severe slipped capital femoral epiphysis by subcapital osteotomy. The authors deal with the etiology, symptomatology and treatment with special regard to the severe slip. Spica cast was applied in most operations and no internal fixation was used. In the so far latest female patient the femoral head was fixed after osteotomy by Kirschner wires according to Dyas Aries. In the discussion the authors report considerably lower percentage of complications in the longterm examination, mainly a
