The effect of 17 beta-estradiol and progesterone on ocular lens in rats and untreated controls was studied. In the treated lenses, the activity of hexokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase remained unchanged. The activity of aldolase was increased in 18- and 20-month-old lenses as compared to controls. Aldose reductase activity was decreased at the age of 20 months (p < 0.001). In this paper we report on a study to elucidate whether the response of human lymphocytes to mitogenic stimulation was modified by physiological changes which occur during the menstrual cycle. Clinical and laboratory observations suggested an interaction between sex hormones and dopaminergic functions. Estrogens are reported to exert dual effects on dopaminergic system(s). The study of tubal cytosol receptors for estradiol and progesterone shows that they are (in comparison with normal tubes) less in number in post-infection cases (proximal or distal) and increased in number in proximal endometriotic lesions. These variations are only significant for the progesterone receptors. These results are compared with those in the literature, and their implications, concerning hormone treatments used together with microsurgical tubo-plasties, are discussed.

One hundred women were admitted to the hospital between 7 and 18 weeks' gestation because of vaginal bleeding and threatened abortion. In 64 pregnant women admitted to hospital because of threatened abortion the prognostic value of estradiol-17-beta, estriol and human placental lactogen (HPL) in serum was examined.
