PURPOSE: Abductor tendon tears are increasingly recognised as a common cause of lateral hip pain. Surgical treatment of these tears has been recommended, but the indications and types of open surgery have not been precisely elucidated yet. This manuscript aimed to critically review the literature concerning all open treatment options for this condition while identifying knowledge gaps and introducing a treatment algorithm.

Twenty-seven patients with clinically suspected acute cholecystitis were prospectively evaluated for supporting evidence with intravenous cholangiography and gray scale sonography. Twenty of these fulfilled criteria for inclusion in the study. Sonography was found to be helpful in all 20 patients (100%). Patients with myelotoxic agranulocytosis were treated with gentamicin administered intravenously as drop-wise infusions in a dose of 5 mg/kg body weight a day every 8 hours.
