OBJECTIVE: To explore the genetic cause for a Uyghur Chinese child with collodion skin.
METHODS: G-banded chromosomal karyotyping was carried out for the child and his parents. High-throughput sequencing for 25 genes related to ichthyosis and ichthyosiform dermatosis was also performed for the child.
RESULTS: No karyotypic abnormality was found in the child and his parents. High-throughput sequencing has detected in the patient a previously described pathogenic mutation c.919C>T (p.Arg307Trp) and a novel c.856C>T (p.Arg286Trp) mutation in the TGM1 gene. By Sanger sequencing, the child was ve

Family factors are closely associated with child developmental outcomes. This study examined the relationship of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) symptoms and factors at whole family, dyadic, and individual levels in Chinese children. Participants, who were recruited from 14 primary schools in north, east, and south-west China, included 80 father-child dyads and 169 mother-child dyads. Children in the participating dyads were previously diagnosed with ODD. Results revealed that family cohesion/adaptability was indirectly associated with ODD symptoms via parent-child relationship and child e

BACKGROUND: Over the past decade, smartphones have become an integral part of family life, shaping both daily routines and parent-child interactions. Although parental smartphone use in the presence of children is frequently framed as harmful through concepts such as phubbing and technoference, these constructs emphasize disruptive smartphone use and may bias interpretations toward negative effects. Moreover, most previous research has relied on cross-sectional self-report data, limiting insight into how parental smartphone use relates to children's well-being in everyday life.

The coexistence of physical malformation and homosexuality and their mutual effects on each other are examined in the context of an account of the early months of an analysis. The material is structured around the hypothesis that this perversion is based on the existence of a perverse pact between the mother and the son, characterized specifically by a particular exchange of disavowals: the typical attribution by the child of phallic completeness to the mother is returned by her in her transformation by disavowal of the son's physical deformity into an image of beautiful fullness and physical

The challenge of community and family reentry after a parent's release from prison remains an under-addressed area of collateral damage stemming from high rates of U.S. incarceration. Many fathers released from prison return to living with family, and later attribute family connections and parent-child contact as key factors in their post-release success. However, reentry planning is hampered by a dearth of research on family-focused reentry services, and consequently, often omits attention to resuming family and parenting roles. To address this gap, we conducted 38 semi-structured interviews

This study uses data from 2,309 biological fathers who participated in the Fragile Families and Child Well-Being Study (FFCWS) to examine associations between psychosocial characteristics and levels of corporal punishment (CP) toward their 3-year-old children over the past month. Results indicate that 61% of the fathers reported no CP over the past month, 23% reported using CP once or twice, and 16% reported using CP a few times in the past month or more. In multivariate models controlling for important sociodemographic factors as well as characteristics of the child, fathers' parenting stress

The present study obtained data on childhood physical and sexual abuse in a Basque sample in order to compare abuse rates with a similar study conducted in the United States. The study also examined the relationships between childhood physical and sexual abuse, childhood social support, and abuse potential in the Basque sample. Although the overall rates of physically abusive behaviors were similar in the Basque and US samples, the rates of physical abuse sequelae (bruises/welts, cuts/scratches, dislocations, burns, and/or bone fractures) were lower in the Basque sample. In addition, while the

Despite decades of support for behavioral parent training, studies consistently comprise a proportion of families who do not experience sustained improvement in child conduct problems. Recent innovations to enhance treatment effects use predictors of treatment response to guide efforts to personalize treatment. We investigated whether baseline parental cognitions predicted response to Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) in a sample of N = 61 children (M = 4.78 years, SD = 1.23, 74% boys) with conduct problems. Families received PCIT at an Australian urban university-based clinic. Parental

The current shift in the DSM towards the inclusion of a dimensional component allows clinicians and researchers to demonstrate not only the presence or absence of psychopathology in an individual, but also the degree to which the disorder and its symptoms are manifested. This study evaluated the psychometric properties and utility of a set of brief dimensional scales that assess DSM-based core features of anxiety disorders, for children and their parents. The dimensional scales and the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED-71), a questionnaire to assess symptoms of all a

This study reports a case of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome with early onset of gynecomastia, and discusses its clinical characteristics and genetic changes in a family. The clinical characteristics of a child diagnosed with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome in our hospital and his parents were summarized, and related genes were detected in the child and his parents. Furthermore, the therapeutic effect of letrozole was also observed. A five-year-and-three-month-old male patient visited a doctor due to "progressive painless enlargements at bilateral breast for more than two years". The mother of the patient had b

(1) Background: In the context of a child with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM), the rearrangement of the family's lifestyle can account for an increased risk of experiencing psychosocial problems for both child and parents. Those few studies on pediatric diabetes, which focused on parents' perception of children's psychological strengths and weaknesses, reported significantly higher rates of children's emotional and conduct problems associated with an imbalance in the Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). The main aim of this paper was to assess the role of parental perception of children's psychosocial sym
