"I've got to fix this": Mothers' challenges when experiencing feeding difficulty in their autistic children during infancy.

PURPOSE: Mothers of infants often experience heightened stress while establishing feeding habits and routines. When those routines are complicated by feeding challenges later recognized as associated with autism, the emotional and caregiving strain can be substantial. While the challenges faced by mothers of older autistic children with feeding difficulties are well documented, less is known about mothers' experiences of feeding challenges that occurred during their child's first year of life, prior to autism diagnosis. METHODS: Using a qualitative descriptive design, this study explored moth

Racial marginalization moderates associations between mothers' emotion regulation difficulties and feeding to soothe practices with young children.

PURPOSE: Early feeding practices such as feeding to soothe distress can shape children's self-regulation and eating behaviors. Maternal childhood maltreatment history and emotion regulation difficulties may contribute to greater reliance on feeding to soothe, though further evidence is needed. Furthermore, cultural differences in feeding may influence the association between emotion regulation and feeding to soothe. This study examined whether maternal trauma and emotion regulation difficulties predicted feeding to soothe and differences by racial marginalization group. METHODS: Women (N = 18

What Outcome Measurement Instruments Are Used to Measure Caregiver Infant-Feeding Practices and the Feeding Environment: A Scoping Review.

INTRODUCTION: How caregiver infant-feeding practices and infant-feeding environment outcomes are measured in obesity prevention intervention trials is crucial to accurately examine intervention effects. This scoping review identified what and how outcome measurement instruments (OMIs) are used to measure eight infant-feeding practice and two feeding environment outcomes that are included in a core outcome set. METHODS: Embase, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PsycINFO databases were searched from inception to 18.09.23, with an updated search conducted 18.09.25. Eligible trials included infants ≤ 1 year o

Effect of breast feeding on risk of coeliac disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies.

BACKGROUND: Coeliac disease (CD) is a disorder that may depend on genetic, immunological, and environmental factors. Recent observational studies suggest that breast feeding may prevent the development of CD. AIM: To evaluate articles that compared effects of breast feeding on risk of CD. METHODS: Systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies published between 1966 and June 2004 that examined the association between breast feeding and the development of CD. RESULTS: Six case-control studies met the inclusion criteria. With the exception of one small study, all the included st

Routine jejunostomy tube feeding following esophagectomy.

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition is an important problem following esophagectomy. A surgically placed jejunostomy secures an enteral feeding route, facilitating discharge with home-tube feeding and long-term nutritional support. However, specific complications occur, and data are lacking that support its use over other enteral feeding routes. Therefore routine jejunostomy tube feeding and discharge with home-tube feeding was evaluated, with emphasis on weight loss, length of stay and re-admissions. METHODS: Consecutive patients undergoing esophagectomy for cancer, with gastric tube reconstruction and

Enhancing Nutrition Support for Esophageal Cancer Patients: Understanding Factors Influencing Feeding Tube Utilization.

Objective: We sought to identify factors that can predict esophageal cancer (EC) patients at high risk of requiring feeding tube insertion. Methods: A retrospective cohort review was conducted, including all patients diagnosed with EC at our cancer center from 2013 to 2018. Multivariate logistic regression was performed comparing the group that required a reactive feeding tube insertion to those who did not require any feeding tube insertion to identify risk factors. Results: A total of 350 patients were included in the study, and 132/350 (38%) patients received a feeding tube. 50 out of 132 (

Electropenetrography with Alternating Current Reveals In Situ Changes of Aedes aegypti Probing Behaviors Associated with Dengue Virus Infection.

Human infection with dengue virus (DENV) results in significant morbidity and mortality around the world. Current methods to investigate virus-associated changes in insect feeding behaviors are largely restricted to video analysis of feeding events outside of the host or intravital microscopy. Electropenetrography, a method originally developed for plant-feeding insects, offers a promising alternative by allowing high-resolution recording of voltage changes across the insect bite interface. We compared recordings from DENV-infected Aedes aegypti mosquitoes feeding on uninfected mice and uninfe

Oral Feeding of NICU Infants: A Global Survey of Current Practices and the Potential of Cold Milk Feeding Intervention.

Background/Objectives: Infants admitted to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) face challenges in achieving successful oral feedings. During oral feedings, these infants commonly present with suck-swallow-breathe incoordination, with approximately 30% developing dysphagia, leading to feeding aversion, prolonged hospitalization, and increased parental stress. Cold liquid feeding has demonstrated benefits in improving feeding safety in adults with dysphagia; however, its application in neonates is relatively limited. This study aimed to examine global neonatal feeding practices, with a specifi
