Subgaleal migration of the distal catheter of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt.

Proximal migration of the distal end of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt has been observed much more rarely than other numerous shunt-related complications. Subgaleal migration of the peritoneal end is one of the samples. In the preset report we have discussed a case of subgaleal migration of the peritoneal end detected as a result of the examinations performed for shunt dysfunction. There was ventricular dilatation on CT scan of the brain. X-ray examinations confirmed proper ventricular catheter and shunt valve placement but a complete migration of distal (peritoneal) catheter into the subgaleal

Unusual retrograde movement of a safety-pin ingested by an infant.

UNLABELLED: Here we present the first reported case of an ingested open safety-pin in a 7-mo-old boy that migrated from the stomach to the oesophagus. CONCLUSION: This rare complication is probably due to a gastro-oesophageal reflux effect, and for this reason we propose that all infants with safety-pins and other sharp objects in the stomach should be positioned in a semi-upright position.

[A chicken bone as cause of Fournier gangrene].

OBJECTIVES: Fournier's gangrene is a synergistic infective necrotizing fascitis, which involves perianal, perineal and genital regions, with rapid evolution and severe prognosis. We perform a literature review and report a recent case. METHODS: We report the case of a male patient who presented with scrotal pain and history of excretion of a chicken bone in a bowel movement. RESULTS: Despite aggressive surgery and wide spectrum antibiotic, the prognosis severe and the mortality is high. CONCLUSIONS: Rapid and accurate diagnosis remains the key to achieving a successful outcome. Early, wide

Elimination of mechanical failure of the Hickman right atrial catheter.

The double lumen Hickman right atrial catheter (Evermed Co., Palo Alto, Calif.) is usually inserted through an open venous cutdown into the internal jugular or cephalic vein. It is difficult to mechanically secure. Tight ligatures around the vein opening and catheter occlude the lumen of the Silastic rubber catheter while loose ligatures allow slippage. Migration of the tip into the vena cava or innominate vein causes fibrin sleeve formation and occlusion. Because of problems during the initial use of this catheter, we modified a subsequent series by placing a Silastic rubber bead on the cathe

[Intracardiac migration of the ureteral single-J : A case report and removal techniques].

The techniques of derivation of the high urinary tract are indispensable in common practice for the management of ureteral obstructions. Like any surgical gesture, its techniques are not without complications; Among those common are hematuria, urinary incontinence, migration in the bladder and rupture of the probe. However, intracardiac probe migration has rarely been described. We report the case of a 68-year-old patient treated for cervical cancer who benefited from the rise of a bilateral single-J probe, admitted for accidental migration of the left probe into the heart. The diagnosis was m

Spontaneous antegrade enteral migration of feeding jejunostomy tube.

Spontaneous migration of enteral feeding tubes is unusual. We report an 18-year-old man with corrosive stricture of the upper esophagus in whom feeding jejunostomy was performed using an 18F Levine's tube. Thirteen months later, he presented with absence of the tube. The patient was tolerating liquid diet and was managed conservatively. Serial radiographs and colonoscopy showed a steady progress of the tube through the gut. The tube was passed out spontaneously after 20 days.

An interesting case of a wandering foreign body in the tracheobronchial tree.

Inhaled foreign body (FB) is a rare clinical entity for the ENT surgeon. We present a case of an inhaled foreign body in the right main bronchus shown to move to the left main bronchus by repeat chest X-ray during a delay prior to removal. The role of repeat chest X-ray if there is a significant delay before removal of an inhaled foreign body and the optimal management are discussed.
