Charcoal can be used for preoperative localization of metastatic lymph nodes in the neck. Charcoal remains stable without causing foreign body reactions during as hort period. However, foreign body reactions may develop if charcoal is left in situ for more than 6 months. Hidden foreign bodies have been described as a rare cause of both strangulation of the glans penis and urethrocutaneous fistula. We present the case of a 30-year-old man who developed a urethrocutaneous fistula and penile shaft necrosis after a condom broke during intercourse. Neither the patient nor several physicians could identify the retained ring of condom, which had been buried under newly epithelialized skin. He underwent removal of the foreign body under general anesthesia, followed 5 months later by a formal urethrocutaneous fistula repair.

A case of chronic digital synovitis and foreign body reaction secondary to metallic filings is reported. The patient had a digital mass and a previous history of a ring finger injury. A saw action ring remover was implicated as a source of foreign bodies produced by ring removal over the open wound. Care should be taken to avoid implantation of metal filings with this technique, and an alternate method of removing rings from injured fingers should be considered.

We report a male patient who underwent bronchoscopic instillation of glue to control moderate hemoptysis which later led to the development of postobstructive pneumonia and extensive foreign body reaction in the bronchial wall and the lung distal to the glue application. Excessive granulomatous foreign-body reaction is a very rare complication after wrapping of intracranial aneurysms. The pathogenetic mechanisms underlying this process are unknown. As part of a review of substance abuse deaths in Dutchess County, New York, the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office identified 3 cases of angiocentric systemic foreign-body granulomatosis discovered at autopsy. New methods are constantly introduced for soft tissue augmentation to correction of scars and wrinkles. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. A 48 year old woman developed visible and palpable plaques and papules after treatment of the nasolabial and glabella folds with a poly L-lactic acid implant. Histological examination revealed a foreign body granuloma, while electron microscopy showed remnants of the implant material, demonstrating that poly L-lactic acid can also induce a foreign body reaction.
