Avulsion fractures of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle are extremely uncommon, with only a few cases documented in medical literature. We present a case involving a 12-year-old female gymnast who experienced acute pain in the back of her knee after a training incident. Initial radiographs did not reveal any abnormalities, prompting further imaging for accurate diagnosis. Advanced imaging identified an avulsion fracture at the posteromedial aspect of the femur, originating from the medial gastrocnemius tendon. The patient underwent conservative treatment. At the three-month follow-up

INTRODUCTION: Capitellum fractures are rare, representing only 1% of all elbow injuries. McKee Type 4 capitellum fractures encompass osteochondral shearing fractures of the capitellum, which involve a significant lateral portion of the trochlear ridge and the trochlea. These fractures may be linked with soft tissue and bone injuries surrounding the elbow, such as distal triceps tendon avulsion (DTTA) injuries. To date, only three case reports in the English literature have documented the correlation between Type 4 capitellum and trochlear fractures with DTTA injuries. Orthopedic surgeons shoul

Tibial spine avulsion injuries, including fractures, are a variant of anterior cruciate ligament injuries. Treatment historically consisted of open reduction and internal fixation of the avulsion fracture, with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction considered in cases of failed open reduction and internal fixation or residual laxity. However, improved instrumentation has led to the advancement of various arthroscopic techniques for addressing these injuries. The emergence of newer implants designed for all-suture fixation has also overcome the limitations associated with screw fixation, su

A 65-year-old woman presented with right elbow pain after a fall. Imaging showed an avulsion fracture of the olecranon. The patient subsequently underwent surgery using the suture bridge technique with anchors. However, loosening was observed intraoperatively. Therefore, a McLaughlin cerclage with an artificial ligament was added, resulting in a rigid fixation. Bone union was achieved at 4 months postoperatively. At 18 months postoperatively, no limitation was observed in the range of motion of the elbow joint; the disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand score was 0. McLaughlin cerclage wit

Managing gross maxillofacial injuries poses significant challenges due to potential complications such as airway obstruction, cervical spine injuries, and damage to cranial structures. The resultant deformities from these injuries can have enduring psychological effects, which, if left unaddressed, can be devastating. This report outlines an approach for a patient with a history of a bull gore injury wherein a 49-year-old male presented to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, reporting an alleged animal attack. The patient had experienced avulsion of the left eye and degloving inj

BACKGROUND: Avulsion fracture of the ischial tuberosity is a relatively clinically rare type of trauma that is mainly incurred by adolescents during competitive sports activities. According to previous literature, the most commonly involved sports are soccer, sprinting, and gymnastics, in descending order. Dance-induced avulsion fracture of the ischial tuberosity and ischial ramus is extremely clinically rare.
CASE SUMMARY: A case of a neglected avulsion fracture of the ischial tuberosity and ischial ramus was diagnosed in a young female dancer who complained of pain and restricted movement o

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) avulsion fractures without any concomitant injuries are extremely rare in skeletally mature patients and sporadically reported in the literature. Such injuries are more likely to be associated with tibial plateau fractures, other knee ligament ruptures, distal femoral fractures, or knee dislocations. In this article, a case of a 55-year-old male, who suffered a combined displaced ACL-posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fracture, without any related injuries, is reported. The fracture was treated all arthroscopically with both an internal fixation and a s

BACKGROUND: Avoiding patella baja or alta after the Krackow suture technique for distal avulsion fractures of the patella can be challenging. We aim to introduce a simple and reproducible technique using a 30-degree radiolucent triangle involving the contralateral knee to ensure the correct positioning of the patella intraoperatively.
METHOD: The radiolucent triangle is positioned under the contralateral knee before operating the injured knee. A strict lateral view is obtained using fluoroscopy as a reference before a Krackow technique is performed on the avulsion fracture of the patella.

Telecanthus is commonly accompanied by severe naso-orbito-ethmoid fractures. If there is only an avulsion fracture of the medial canthal tendon (MCT), the initial diagnosis may be missed, and post-traumatic telecanthus may follow. To avoid misdiagnosis of post-traumatic telecanthus, the following should be considered: avulsion fracture of the MCT should be suspected in the presence of an injury or edema of the medial canthal area; the facial computed tomography images should be carefully analyzed to confirm the presence of bone segment caused by the avulsion fracture of the MCT; physical exami

CASE: A 31-year-old man who had a chronic popliteus avulsion fracture 18 years earlier treated with physical therapy presented with new onset left knee locking after exercising at the gym. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a chronic popliteus avulsion fracture of the lateral femoral condyle. Surgical excision of the nonunited bone fragment was performed.
CONCLUSION: Isolated popliteus avulsion fractures are extremely rare injuries that occur primarily in a skeletally immature patient population and for which treatment options are not well understood. Treatment options include conservati

A rare childhood injury is a combined tibial tubercle fracture and patellar tendon rupture, and this condition necessitates an open surgical procedure to perform a stable fixation of the tubercle fragment and a successful patellar tendon repair. When a tibial tubercle fracture in the tibia is present alone, a high index of suspicion is required. In this article, we described a case of a male teen who suffered a neglected patellar tendon rupture following close reduction and fixation of a tibial tubercle fracture.

INTRODUCTION: This study highlights the case of a 75-year-old female patient with a history of bilateral knee replacements who presented with a subacute patellar tendon rupture that occurred after falling on her left knee.
CASE REPORT: The patient had a left total knee replacement one year previously and came in for her one-year follow-up. She presented 3 weeks after her injury with a high-riding patella and a small tibial tubercle avulsion fracture on X-ray, yet she did not experience much pain nor any loss of active extension of her left knee. Despite the severity and subacute presentation

INTRODUCTION: Proximal humerus fractures are common injuries of the upper extremity. These fractures are frequent in the elderly population due to low-energy trauma and in the younger patient secondary to high-energy trauma that is associated with shoulder dislocations. Proximal humerus fractures are frequently classified according to the Neer classification which is defined by the number of segments and the amount displacement required to define the fracture as displaced. Segments include the greater tuberosity (GT), the lesser tuberosity, the humeral head, and the humeral shaft. Fractures ar

Small osteolabral avulsions of the hip can be easily missed, and postreduction stress testing and a computed tomography (CT) scan of the hip should be done to look for these injuries. The usual modality of treatment of these unstable osteolabral avulsions is suture anchors, Herbert screws or spring plates. But when the bony avulsion is small, the use of these implants becomes a tedious job. We present a novel technique of fixing small osteochondral avulsion fractures not amenable to fixation using screws or spring plates. We performed a retrospective analysis of 57 cases of patients who underw

BACKGROUND: The tibial stop of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is fan-shaped and attached to the medial groove in front of the intercondylar spine, which is located between the anterior horn of the medial and lateral meniscus. The incidence of this fracture is low previously reported, which is common in children and adolescents. With the increase of sports injury and traffic injury and the deepening of under-standing, it is found that the incidence of the disease is high at present.
AIM: To explore the difference between open reduction and internal fixation with small incision and high-inten

CASE: We report an 11-year-old male who sustained a lesser tuberosity avulsion fracture of the proximal humerus upon making contact with a baseball during an at-bat. This injury was neglected for 14 months and was eventually detected by an axillary radiograph and subsequent MRI. He successfully underwent an open surgical repair and regained full range of motion and level of activity at 1-year follow-up.
CONCLUSION: In pediatric baseball players, lesser tuberosity avulsion fractures may occur upon striking a baseball with a bat. Even after being neglected for several months, these injuries can

A 3-year-old gelding was presented for further evaluation and treatment of a swelling over the left mandible and inability to eat and drink. Radiographs of the mandible were unremarkable. Computed tomography (CT) of the head demonstrated a fracture of the basihyoid bone and partial avulsion of the medial pterygoid muscle. Ultrasound examination was performed to establish a baseline and confirmed the fracture. The gelding was managed conservatively, recovered uneventfully, and was able to return to training after 4 months of rest. Key clinical message: Computed tomography and ultrasonography in

Acute traumatic avulsion or rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the thumb metacarpophalangeal (TMP) joint is a frequent sports-related injury. If not diagnosed and treated early, it may lead to chronic instability, pain, and loss of pinch and grip strength and possibly osteoarthritis. UCL insufficiency may be treated by various techniques, such as bone anchors, transosseous sutures with or without a pull-out button, tendon grafts, or with TMP joint fusion in neglected cases with arthrosis. A simple technique of internal fixation of an avulsion fracture of the distal attachment of
