Early Molecular Immune Responses of Turbot (Scophthalmus maximus L.) Following Infection with Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida.

Turbot aquaculture production is an important economic activity in several countries around the world; nonetheless, the incidence of diseases, such furunculosis, caused by the etiological agent A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida, is responsible for important losses to this industry worldwide. Given this perspective, this study aimed to evaluate early immune responses in turbot (S. maximus L.) following infection with A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida. For this, 72 fish were individually weighed and randomly distributed into 6 tanks in a circulating seawater system. For the bacterial challenge, …

Staphylococcal and streptococcal infections of the skin.

Acute pyogenic infections of the skin, caused by hemolytic streptococci and S. aureus, account for the vast majority of bacterial infections of the skin seen in ambulatory practice. In preschool children the principal manifestation is pyoderma, which is usually caused by Group A Streptococcus. In this age group pyoderma regularly responds to systemic penicillin therapy plus adjunctive local care to the lesions. However, in older age groups, the ability to distinguish streptococcal from staphylococcal skin infections on the basis of clinical features alone is poor, and penicillin treatment fail

Laser surgery for soft tissue purulent diseases.

The original techniques of soft-tissue purulent lesion treatment by means of a continuous-wave CO2 laser are elaborated. The following laser treatment advantages--minimal tissue damage, prophylaxis of local dissemination of infection, haemostatic and sterilizing effects--have been proved experimentally. Laser utilization in clinical trial (360 cases) made it possible to obtain significantly improved outcomes and marked shortening of treatment.
