In vivo sealing ability of calcium hydroxide-containing root canal sealers.

It was the purpose of this study to determine the sealing ability of 2 commercially available calcium hydroxide-containing root canal sealers, CRCS and Sealapex. One hundred sixty single-rooted human teeth were used. The clinical crowns were removed and the roots were cleaned mechanically and by immersion for 24 h in 5% sodium hypochlorite. The root canals were then instrumented to size 80 at the apical foramen and the roots were sterilized by gamma-radiation. Under aseptic conditions the root canals were filled with a gutta-percha master cone size 70 and Sealapex (48 roots), CRCS (48 roots),

Clinical Chronicles: A Case Report on Pink Tooth of Mummery.

Internal tooth resorption is a subtle proceeding typically occurring in teeth with a history of trauma, chronic pulpal inflammation, or caries-related issues. It is frequently observed in anterior teeth that are more vulnerable and susceptible to injury, but can also affect posterior teeth, often due to pulp involvement in caries. This case report illustrates the handling of a resorption in the cervical third of the root. A 28-year-old female patient was referred for endodontic and esthetic treatment for her primary complaint of pink spot staining in her upper left central incisor's crown. The

Microleakage within endodontically treated teeth using a simplified root canal preparation technique: an in vitro study.

This study evaluated the effects of two canal preparation methods on leakage in endodontically treated teeth, comparing the relative leakage rates for conventionally prepared teeth and those instrumented and obturated with the Ultradent Endo-Eze system. Two groups (n=11) of freshly extracted human premolars (and some canines) with closed apices and single roots were used. The roots in the first group were instrumented with conventional stainless steel hand files and obturated with gutta-percha and Sealapex. The experimental group were instrumented and obturated using the Ultradent Endo-Eze sys

The effect of human blood on the sealing ability of root canal sealers: an in vitro study.

The effect of human blood and moisture contamination on the sealing ability of six commonly used root canal sealers was studied. The materials tested--Tubliseal, Diaket, AH26, Nogenol, Roth, and Endomethasone sealers--were placed in root canals with laterally condensed gutta-percha. The specimens were immediately immersed in blood or saline solution or kept dry for 2 hours. All the teeth were then subjected to methylene blue dye for 1 hour. A comparison of the seal was made by observation of dye penetration around the filling materials. Under all conditions, Tubliseal exhibited the least amoun

Laser-activated Versus Sonic-activated Irrigation for Removing Residual Filling Materials in Mandibular Molars: A Micro-Computed Tomography Study.

INTRODUCTION: Advanced irrigation plays a crucial role in nonsurgical retreatment cases, as these procedures require the removal of existing obturation materials while preserving dentin. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of laser-activated versus sonic-activated irrigation in removing residual obturation material in the mesial canals of mandibular molars with isthmuses during nonsurgical root canal retreatment. METHODS: Forty mesial canals of extracted mandibular molars were instrumented and obturated with gutta-percha and a bioceramic sealer. Retretments was performed us

Dual-functional injectable hydrogels as antimicrobial and angiogenic therapeutics for dental pulp regeneration.

Pulpitis is a painful inflammatory condition of the dental pulp, commonly triggered by bacterial infection, trauma, or repeated dental procedures. Patients often experience heightened sensitivity to temperature changes, spontaneous pain, and, in severe cases, necrosis of the pulp tissue, leading to tooth loss if left untreated. Traditional treatment primarily involves root canal therapy, which removes infected pulp and seals the canal with gutta-percha; however, this approach lacks antimicrobial properties and does not support tissue regeneration. To address these limitations, this study inves

Quality of different obturation techniques to fill perforating internal root resorption: a micro-computed tomographic study.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to assess the quality of various obturation techniques to fill perforation caused by internal root resorption using Micro-computed Tomography. METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography images of a maxillary central incisor tooth with perforating internal resorptive defect were used to create a 3D printed model of the affected tooth. The replicas were divided into four groups based on the obturation technique used. The techniques included Group 1: a polydimethylsiloxane-based sealer (GuttaFlow-2) with gutta-percha. Group 2: same as Group 1 except for using a pre-mixed

Endodontic treatment of mandibular molar with root dilaceration using Reciproc single-file system.

Biomechanical preparation of root canals with accentuated curvature is challenging. New rotatory systems, such as Reciproc, require a shorter period of time to prepare curved canals, and became a viable alternative for endodontic treatment of teeth with root dilaceration. Thus, this study aimed to report a clinical case of endodontic therapy of root with accentuated dilaceration using Reciproc single-file system. Mandibular right second molar was diagnosed as asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Pulp chamber access was performed, and glide path was created with #10 K-file (Dentsply Maillefer) a

Treatment of external inflammatory root resorption after autogenous tooth transplantation: case report.

This paper describes a case of autogenous tooth transplantation. An external inflammatory root resorption developed in a 30-year-old female patient and was successfully treated with the placement of calcium hydroxide-based intracanal dressings. Autotransplantation of tooth 32 into the extraction socket of tooth 30 was carried out with no intraoperative complications and uneventful postoperative course. However, the patient did not appear on the 14th postoperative day to initiate endodontic therapy of the transplanted tooth. She did not return for 3 months, at which time the clinical and periap

Management of Concomitant Intrusion and Complicated Crown-Root Fracture Injury of Maxillary Central Incisors in a Child.

Dental intrusions are a severe type of injury because they impact the neurovascular supply of the tooth as well as the supporting tissues which predispose the tooth to necrosis and root resorption. Management of these injuries requires repositioning of the teeth under close monitoring to avoid complications. The management becomes more comprehensive when an intrusion is combined with other injuries, such as a crown-root fracture. This case report represents a 4-year follow-up of a child who suffered from a concomitant injury of intrusion and complicated crown-root fracture to the maxillary imm

Non-surgical endodontic treatment for dens invaginatus type III using cone beam computed tomography and dental operating microscope: a case report.

Dens invaginatus is a morphological abnormality of the tooth in which the coronal tooth enamel and dentin fold inwards towards the pulp cavity. Dens invaginatus type III (Oehlers: 1957) is characterized by infolding of the enamel and dentin as far as the root apex. This report describes a case of surgical and non-surgical endodontic therapy for a maxillary lateral incisor with type III dens invaginatus, necrotic pulp, and an associated large periradicular lesion. The patient was a 16-year-old man. Periapical radiographs suggested the presence of an untreated area of invagination. Cone beam com

Clinical management of mid-root fracture in maxillary central incisors: case reports.

Management of mid-root fractures presents a formidable challenge for clinicians because of the difficulty of achieving a stable reunion of fracture fragments. This article presents two varied treatment options for mid-root fractures. A 15-year-old female reported an impact injury to the maxillary anterior teeth 2 days after its occurrence. Clinically, the maxillary left central incisor was palatally-extruded with a negative vitality response and radiographic evidence of an oblique fracture at the middle third of the root. An endodontic implant was employed which utilized an open technique and

Comparison of different techniques for obturating experimental internal resorptive cavities.

Forty extracted maxillary central incisors were instrumented at the working length to a #50 file. The roots were sectioned transversely with a diamond disk at 7 mm from the anatomical apex. At the opening of the root canal of each section, hemicircular cavities were drilled with a specially designed bur. The corresponding root sections were cemented with glue, thus obtaining root canals with similar cavities that simulated internal resorptions. Teeth were embedded in plaster casts to facilitate their handling. The specimens were randomly separated into four groups of 10. The following obturati
