Two cases of Müllerian aplasia associated with unilateral hypoplasia of the thumbs and skeletal spine deformities in two unrelated females are reported, and the pertinent literature is reviewed. Müllerian aplasia is frequently associated with skeletal spine deformities, but has not been reported to be associated with hypoplasia of the thumbs. Several heritable syndromes, including the hand-foot-uterus syndrome, are characterized by uterovaginal and distal extremity malformations but are not associated with skeletal spine anomalies. The two cases reported here represent a previously unreported

A clinical and neuropsychological syndrome for early recognition of occult hydrocephalus and cerebral atrophy is described. Five illustrative patients are reported. The main features of the syndrome are (i) subjective non-specific complaints (headaches, depression and loss of memory); (ii) the tonic foot response of the sole and the grasp reflex of the foot in the absence of the grasp reflex of the hand; (iii) attacks of sudden and transient loss of muscle tone in both lower limbs leading to falls without warning while standing or while walking. These attacks indistinguishable from drop-attack

INTRODUCTION: The mobilization of patients with diabetic foot syndrome after surgical treatment by debridement or partial amputation is usually difficult in daily practice and in inpatient care.
AIM AND METHOD: A case report - with a representative case showing the innovative possibilities of an alternative mobilization option by means of a new orthesis ("iWALK 2.0®"; IWALKFree® Inc., Mansfield, Ontario, Canada) after surgical therapy of diabetic gangrene, exemplified by the successful clinical course.
RESULTS: The inpatient admission of a 59-year-old male patient revealed septic gangrene of

Familial aggregates of the most common disorders of müllerian differentiation in females-Müllerian aplasia, incomplete Müllerian fusion-are best explained on the basis of polygenic/multifactorial inheritance. No information exists on the number and chromosomal location of responsible genes. Single mutant genes (Mendelian) are responsible for the McKusick-Kaufman syndrome (MKS) and the hand-foot-genital syndrome. The molecular basis for the latter condition involves HOXA13, but the molecular basis of MKS and other disorders of the female reproductive ducts is unknown. Vaginal atresia, Müllerian

A family with the EEC syndrome is reported. Two sibs have the classical form of the condition with ectrodactyly, ectodermal dysplasia, and clefting. Their mother, however, has only minimal evidence, with preaxial polydactyly of the right hand and duplication of the terminal phalanx of the second toe of the left foot with 3/4 syndactyly. The dilemmas faced by the genetic counsellor are discussed in this variable autosomal dominant condition.

The chromosome 10q22.3q23.2 deletion syndrome is characterized by craniofacial dysmorphic features, developmental delay, congenital heart defect, and hand/foot abnormalities. In this study, we report a patient carrying a microdeletion of 7.5 Mb at 10q22.3q23.2 and in addition a mosaicism mos 47,XXY[47]/46,XY[23]. This male patient was 3 years and 3 months years old at the time of genetic evaluation. Atrial ventricular septal defect (AVSD), mild hypotonia, torticollis, and left-sided club foot were noticed after birth. The boy had surgical correction of the AVSD and the club foot. His dysmorphi

INTRODUCTION: Stroke presenting with paresthesia of bilateral hands and one leg in a gloves-and-one-sock distribution is rare.
CASE REPORT: We report a patient with brainstem hemorrhage involving the right medial lemniscus (ML) across the midline to the medial part of left ML that resulted in paresthesia in bilateral hands and the left foot. The neighboring lesions include the right ventral trigeminothalamic tract causing left facial numbness, right trigeminal motor nucleus leading to right lateral pterygoid muscle weakness, right anterolateral tract resulting in a left hemisensory syndrome,

A previously healthy 16-year-old boy developed papular purpuric gloves and socks syndrome concomitant with mononeuritis multiplex attributable to acute infection with parvovirus B19. A cutaneous biopsy showed lymphocytic lichenoid vasculitis and perineuritis. We discuss the relevance of these pathologic findings, and we suggest a correlation with the patient's neurologic condition. This case illustrates the difficulties in differentiating dysesthesia accompanying cutaneous manifestations of exanthem from neurologic disease on the basis of the clinical appearance alone.

We report a child with clinical and radiological manifestations characteristic of both V'aradi syndrome (oral-facial-digital syndrome type VI) and Thurston syndrome (oral-facial-digital syndrome type V). The findings have not been reported previously, and we believe that it represents a new variant.

A search for patterns of malformation in the brachydactylies has resulted in new ways to identify the different types. Type A-1 can be characterised by a proportionate reduction of the middle phalanges. Type B is thought to be an amputation-like defect. In type C the fourth middle phalanx is usually the longest, and type E (Riccardi and Holmes, 1974) is characterised by short metacarpals and short distal phalanges. Short stature is usually present in type A-1 and type E brachydactyly (Riccardi and Holmes, 1974) and it may be present in some individuals with brachydactyly C. As short children h

A Japanese girl with Pfeiffer syndrome is described. She has clinical and radiological manifestations typical of the syndrome. In addition, she had an imperforate anus not described previously in the syndrome. This seems to expand the phenotype associated with Pfeiffer syndrome or represent a new acrocephalosyndactyly syndrome.

We report on a 13-yr-old boy with acrodysostosis, a review of 30 cases in the literature, and metacarpophalangeal pattern profile (MCPP) analysis. The prominent manifestations (present in greater than 75% of cases) of this condition include nasal and maxillary hypoplasia, peripheral dysostosis, first ray hyperplasia of the foot, acromesomelic brachymelia, decreased interpedicular distance, advanced skeletal maturation and mental retardation. Results of chromosome studies have been normal. An autosomal dominant inheritance pattern was reported in two families. Maternal and paternal ages were 2

Authors present a new and complete from of EEC syndrome (ectrodactyly, ectodermal dysplasia and cleft lip-palate), analysing its' clinical, genetic and therapeutic aspects. Syndrome malformations involving mainly mesenchymal tissue and with diverse clinical expression suggest a heterogenetic heredity. Participation of environmental and unknown factors is not excluded.

The epidemiology of enteroviral infection in South Korea during 1999-2011 chronicles nationwide outbreaks and changing detection and subtyping methods used over the 13-year period. Of 14,657 patients whose samples were tested, 4,762 (32.5%) samples were positive for human enterovirus (human EV); as diagnostic methods improved, the rate of positive results increased. A seasonal trend of outbreaks was documented. Genotypes enterovirus 71, echovirus 30, coxsackievirus B5, enterovirus 6, and coxsackievirus B2 were the most common genotypes identified. Accurate test results correlated clinical synd

Hand infections in diabetic patients are a serious concern, as they can lead to significant functional impairment and, if not promptly treated, may result in extensive tissue destruction or even sepsis. Unlike diabetic foot infections, hand infections are less understood and often present unique challenges in management. Diabetic patients are at an increased risk due to factors such as neuropathy, impaired immune function, and poor wound healing. These infections, if neglected, can result in permanent disability. This report presents a rare case of a diabetic hand infection that was complicate

Palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE), more commonly known as hand-foot syndrome, is a dermatologic complication following chemotherapy with selective agents. In this article, we present the case of a young lady with stage III breast cancer who developed palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia following treatment with Herceptin (trastuzumab), an unusual complication of this particular drug. From our review of literature, this is the second known occurrence of PPE secondary to trastuzumab monotherapy.
