Management manual for cancer treatment-induced bone loss (CTIBL): position statement of the JSBMR.

Androgen deprivation therapy and aromatase inhibitors are known to cause a decrease in bone mineral density and an increase in fractures. Patients receiving these treatments have been shown to have a fracture risk equal to or greater than that of patients with osteoporosis with prevalent fractures. This manual was created to prevent fractures in patients with cancer treatment-induced bone loss with high fracture risks who cannot be treated under the current Japanese guideline for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. This manual recommends drug treatment for patients with BMD - 2.0 ≤ T

Over-the-counter access, changing WHO guidelines, and contraindicated oral contraceptive use in Mexico.

This study examines the prevalence of contraindications to the use of oral contraceptives in Mexico by sociodemographic characteristics and by whether this family planning method was obtained with or without a doctor's prescription. Using data on smoking behavior and blood-pressure measurements from the 2000 Mexican National Health Survey, the authors found that, under the 1996 World Health Organization (WHO) medical eligibility guidelines, the prevalence of contraindications is low and that no significant differences in contraindications exist at any level between those who obtain oral contra

Guidelines for Essential Trauma Care: Second Edition (2026).

Injury is a major cause of death and disability globally, with the highest burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Strengthening the organization and planning for trauma care (care of the injured) can improve care and lower mortality. In 2004, the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) co-published the Guidelines for Essential Trauma Care (EsTC). The goals of the Guidelines for EsTC were to promote affordable and achievable standards for trauma care resources that could realistically be achievable at health c

[Active aging promotion and education for health].

Some years ago, the phenomenon of demographic aging started an intense debate about its supposed negatives effects on the economic progress of a population. Health advances and improved living conditions have gradually increased the health level the elderly have, embellishing the initial perspectives; the elderly live more years but, moreover, they have a better quality of life. For the WHO, to favor an active aging process presents a challenge, avoiding incapacities and dependencies, the real causes of the increase in social-health costs. Following the guidelines established by the II World A

Management of Chronic and Gestational Hypertension of Pregnancy: A Guide for Primary Care Nurse Practitioners.

AIM: The aim of this discussion paper is to outline the guidelines, according to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, about how to manage hypertension before and during pregnancy. Primary providers lack the knowledge to initiate treatment and manage hypertension in patients who are family planning or in the early stages of pregnancy before transferring care to an obstetrician, or perhaps patients who never do transfer care for lack of accessibility or funding. This paper aims to discuss how the Family Nurse Practitioner, or other primary care providers, may safely and effi

Review of current evidence and clinical recommendations on the effects of low-carbohydrate and very-low-carbohydrate (including ketogenic) diets for the management of body weight and other cardiometabolic risk factors: A scientific statement from the National Lipid Association Nutrition and Lifestyle Task Force.

Historically, low-carbohydrate (CHO) and very-low-CHO diets have been used for weight loss. Recently, these diets have been promoted for type 2 diabetes (T2D) management. This scientific statement provides a comprehensive review of the current evidence base available from recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the effects of low-CHO and very-low-CHO diets on body weight, lipoprotein lipids, glycemic control, and other cardiometabolic risk factors. In addition, evidence on emerging risk factors and potential safety concerns of low-CHO and very-low-CHO diets, especially for high-risk ind

Source country perceptions, experiences, and recommendations regarding health workforce migration: a case study from the Philippines.

BACKGROUND: The Philippines continues to overproduce nurses for export. Little first-hand evidence exists from leading organisations in the Philippines concerning their experiences and perceptions in relation to Filipino nurse migration. What are their views about health workforce migration? This paper addresses this research gap by providing a source country perspective on Filipino nurse migration to Australia. METHODS: Focus-group interviews were conducted with key informants from nine Filipino organisations in the Philippines by an Australian-Filipino research team. The organisations were

Requirement of mental health referral letters for staged and revision genital gender-affirming surgeries: An unsanctioned barrier to care.

BACKGROUND: The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) recommends referral letters from two mental health providers within one year of gender-affirming genital surgery (gGAS) to ensure patient readiness before primary surgeries. Many U.S. health insurance plans will not authorize second- and third-stage surgeries or revision surgeries without two referral letters. Such requirements are not supported by WPATH guidelines. OBJECTIVES: This study investigates insurance requirements for referral letters and their negative impact on care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospect
