We review controlled trials of corticosteroid effect in experimentally elicited acute nickel contact dermatitis in man, in the hope of clarifying optimal efficacy for clinical use. To maximize discrimination and objectivity, we focus on data with 1 well-characterized allergen, nickel, in studies utilizing bioengineering documentation. Higher potency corticosteroids are effective (unlike in experimental irritant contact dermatitis), but optimum schedules still require definition.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: To study Haemophilus ducreyi pathogenesis, the authors developed an experimental model of infection in human volunteers. The authors analyze their cumulative experience with strain 35000 in the model and calculate the papule and pustule formation rates for estimated delivered doses (EDDs) ranging from 1 cfu to 100 cfu.

When vascularized fibula grafts are used in mandibular reconstruction, it is often necessary to divide the graft into segments so as to follow the mandibular curvature. With the objective of knowing adequately the spectrum of activity of albendazole against intestinal helminthiases, we made observations regarding hymenolepiasis caused by Hymenolepis nana. Two series of investigations were carried out: a) treatment of mice with single doses of either 25 or 50 mg/kg, repeated after ten days, using as controls animals treated with 25 mg/kg of praziquantel or not treated with any antiparasitic drugs; b) treatment of adults and children with 400 mg daily for three consecutive days, repeated after ten days.

Therapeutic trials were performed on the HepG2 human hepatoblastoma implanted s.c. in the athymic nude mouse. Animals were treated with polyclonal and monoclonal antiferritin and control antibodies labeled with either iodine-131 (131I) or yttrium-90 (90Y).
