Did the Expansion of Insurance Coverage for Oral Health Reduce Self-reported Oral Health Inequalities in Korea? Results of Repeated Cross-Sectional Analysis, 2007-2015.

BACKGROUND: In 2009, the South Korean government expanded universal health insurance to include oral health services. In the present study, we sought to examine whether improved access resulted in a reduction in income-based self-reported oral health inequalities. METHODS: We analyzed repeated cross-sectional data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) waves IV through VI (2007-2015). We analyzed self-reported oral health status among 68,431 subjects. Changes in oral health inequalities across four income levels (low, middle-low, middle-high, and high) were

Adult Medicaid Coverage for Periodontal Treatment: A State-to-State Comparison.

Dental care remains an optional benefit for adults with Medicaid, with coverage varying across states. Recent expansions increased periodontal service coverage, but the scope of coverage and the policies that govern that scope remain unknown. This study analyzed coverage policies and fees for four periodontal services across 43 Medicaid programs between January and March 2024. Frequency limitations were the most common coverage policies identified, followed by prior authorization requirements, clinical requirements, and quadrant limitations. Veteran Health Administration fees were roughly thre

Incentivizing dental services in healthy behaviour Medicaid waivers.

OBJECTIVE: In the United States, adult dental benefits are optional in the state-managed, public insurance program, Medicaid. States also have the option to adapt their Medicaid program via waivers which pair healthy behaviour incentives (HBI) with cost-sharing. These waivers have proven ineffective, but the empirical evidence has ignored differences between states. This study aims to evaluate the impact of four state's HBI Medicaid waiver on dental visits among low-income adult population subject to incentives and cost-sharing requirements by the HBI waiver. METHODS: Analysing biannual data

Medical management of the patient with cardiovascular disease.

Cigarette smoking, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and periodontal disease have been established as major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Dentists and physicians should work aggressively to educate periodontitis patients about this relationship in an effort to improve the quality of health and contribute to their long-term survival. Blood pressure should be checked at the initial dental visit and at each subsequent visit in patients whose blood pressure is found to be high and/or has a history of hypertension. Dental and medical assistants should receive in-service training to ass

Leveraging big electronic data to identify oral care disparities in individuals with serious mental illness.

Individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) have poorer oral health than the general population for various reasons, including poor oral hygiene, adverse effects of psychotropic medicines, stigma, fear, cognitive impairment, lack of insur¬ance coverage, and a shortage of professionals qualified to manage the oral health needs of this population. Oral health deteriorates further when care is postponed, resulting in greater treatment needs when the patient visits the dental office. This retrospective study aimed to determine differ¬ences in service return rate and frequency of visits for each

Is Prophylactic Antibiotic Use Necessary Before Dental Procedures in Primary and Revision TKA? A Propensity Score-matched, Large-database Study.

BACKGROUND: The question of whether dental procedures increase the risk of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) in patients who have undergone total joint arthroplasty (TJA) remains controversial.
