Pregnant women are increasingly being initiated on antiretroviral therapy either as part of prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV or as purely highly active antiretroviral therapy.In this case report, we describe a 26 year old woman who was 28 weeks pregnant and who presented after 4 weeks of initiation of antiretroviral therapy with a herpes zoster eruption and how the case was managed at the Infectious Diseases Institute, Kampala, Uganda.

We report the observation of a 55-year-old man in subtotal remission of a bronchial T2 N2 M1 adenocarcinoma. He consulted for left ocular redness, attributed to a foreign body. The patient presented a left iridal metastasis of bronchial carcinoma, a left frontal cerebral metastasis, and mediastinal evolutionary recovery. External radiotherapy of 30 Gy in ten fractions was immediately begun, followed by second-line chemotherapy. Local anatomical and functional recovery was fast. Peripheral iris pigment epithelial cysts are benign lesions of the anterior segment. They are located at the iridociliary junction and can produce a localised distortion and/or displacement of the iris. Patients who have these lesions are usually asymptomatic and in the absence of a careful slitlamp examination will often remain undetected. BACKGROUND: Multifocal chorioretinitis with panuveitis (MCP) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the peripheral retina and choroid with typical clinical appearance. Although obvious involvement of the anterior segment is often mild, severe chronic inflammatory reactions can occur after cataract surgery. Endogenous catecholamine concentrations in the rat iris-ciliary body (ICB) were determined using the technique of microwave irradiation, whereby enzymes are inactivated within milliseconds, and high performance liquid chromatography. We report a case of a spindle cell malignant melanoma of the iris that was excised locally in 1952, only to become clinically evident again 25 years later. The tumor exhibited unusually slow, compact growth, with local infiltration into the ciliary body and dispersion of tumor cells into the angle structures and onto the posterior cornea. No extraocular dissemination was evident. Histologically, the cells in the specimens taken in 1952, 1978, and 1981 had remarkably similar morphological findings. The patient has had no recurrences 12 months after enucleation.
