We have carried out laboratory and clinical studies on norfloxacin (NFLX, AM-715). The results are summarized as follows. NFLX was given through oral administration to one child each at dose levels of 1.7 mg/kg, 2.4 mg/kg and 3.2 mg/kg. After administration, peak serum levels of NFLX obtained for the 3 dose levels were 0.16 micrograms/ml at 1 hour, 0.69 micrograms/ml at 2 hours, 0.81 micrograms/ml at 1 hour, respectively, and half-lives were 2.5 hours, 1.8 hours and 2.7 hours, respectively. Clinical and laboratory data were compared in 72 patients with localized periodontitis (LP) and 103 patients with generalized periodontitis (GP). In this study we assessed the clinical utility of measuring all major rheumatoid factor (RF) isotypes (IgG, IgA, and IgM) in the diagnostic immunology laboratory using an enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA). An improved method for IgG-RF was tested which employed a commercially available monoclonal anti-human IgG Fd antibody and did not require pepsin digestion of samples. One hundred and sixteen cases of adult patients hospitalized for shigellosis have been reviewed. The most common presentation included diarrhea (most frequently watery), fever, and abdominal pain, while dysentery has been less frequent. We have carried out laboratory and clinical studies on rokitamycin (RKM, TMS-19-Q). The results are summarized as follows. Serum and urinary concentrations of RKM were determined in 6 children with ages between 6 and 12 years given single oral doses of 5, 10 and 15 mg/kg. Mean serum concentrations peaked at 30 minutes after administration of 5, 10 and 15 mg/kg, and respective peak values were 0.30 microgram/ml, 0.79 microgram/ml and 1.32 micrograms/ml. Biological half-lives for 5, 10 and 15 mg/kg were 2.0 hours, 1.65 hours and 1.36 hours. The 6-hour urinary recovery ranged from 1.11% to 2.58%

These hundred seventy-two Chinese patients with atopic dermatitis were compared with a Caucasian population for the basic features. Significant findings occurred: personal or family history of atopy, early age of onset, xerosis, ichthyosis, palmar hyperlinearity, and facial pallor. Laboratory findings of immunologic alteration and altered pharmacologic reactivity are relatively more important features for the diagnosis of atopic dermatitis.

In 82 patients with acute tonsillitis studied, beta-hemolytic group A streptococci were isolated from 30 (37%), and group C or G streptococci from 12 (15%). In a hospital-based study of 400 patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), 42 per cent of patients who had had MS for 10 years or more had benign disease. Early age of onset and a long first remission were significantly associated with a good prognosis.
