A patient, a 63 year-old-man, was admitted suffering from discomfort in the left abdominal area; this proved to be a case of leiomyosarcoma of the mesentery. An upper gastrointestinal series revealed stenosis in the 3rd portion of the duodenum, and shift of the entire intestine to the right side. This is the 17th report on primary leiomyosarcoma of the liver in world literature. In 1980, a 69-year old white female patient was admitted with pain in the right upper abdomen and loss of weight of 12 kg. Increased blood sedimentation rate, elevated serum markers of the liver and ultrasound evolved a big tumor of the right liver without extrahepatic tumor nodules. We describe a 56-year-old female with absence of the right pectoralis muscles, aplasia of the right breast, and skeletal deformities of the right hand, typical of Poland's syndrome. Following complaints of lower abdominal pain, a CT examination revealed an 8-cm mass in the right anterior pelvic wall. Primary leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava is rare and fatal. A 15-year-old female was admitted with the diagnosis of the right atrial myxoma associated with the Budd-Chiari syndrome. The tumor of the IVC was unresectable, although the right atrial tumor extended from the IVC was extirpated. Pathological examination of the tumor revealed a leiomyosarcoma. We recently observed a 4-year-old Chinese boy with multifocal leiomyosarcoma of the small intestine with evidence of dissemination. Complete surgical excision was not possible and the response to postoperative chemotherapy was poor. The patient died 3 months after diagnosis. The prognosis for disseminated intestinal leiomyosarcoma in childhood appears to be poor.

A case of primary leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava was reported. The patient, a 74-year-old man, consulted our hospital with complaints of back pain and abdominal mass in right flank. Probe laparotomy revealed a tumor situated in the retroperitoneum and multiple metastatic nodules in the liver. Biopsy was performed and diagnosed as leiomyosarcoma. A patient with epithelioid leiomyosarcoma of the transverse colon presented clinically with a metastatic left axillary mass, destructive lesion of the glenoid cavity and head of the left humerus, and metastases to the apical region of the left lung and right paravertebral area of the mid-back. The primary tumor was detected eight months after the presentation of metastatic disease.

Thirty-nine cases of leiomyosarcoma of the large intestine, excluding the rectum, have been collected and one original case has been added. The age of subjects ranges from one day to 78 years; sex distribution is almost equal. Only two cases of this disease have been reported in Negroes in the literature. Leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon malignancy that metastasizes to the liver and lungs. Each of the three cases of leiomyosarcoma metastatic to the liver examined by computed tomography demonstrated similar morphologic and dynamic characteristics. Common features included hepatomegaly and large, circumscribed "cannonball" lesions that distorted normal hempatic architecture.
