Association Between US Physician Malpractice Claims Rates and Hospital Admission Rates Among Patients With Lower-Risk Syncope.

IMPORTANCE: The US Government Accountability Office has changed its estimate of the annual costs of defensive medicine, largely because it has been difficult to objectively measure its impact. Although syncope is a concerning symptom, most patients with syncope have a low risk of adverse outcomes. However, many low-risk patients are still admitted to the hospital, with associated costs of more …

Reactions of potential jurors to a hypothetical malpractice suit: alleging failure to perform a prostate-specific antigen test.

We conducted focus groups with 47 potential jurors who were presented with different scenarios in a hypothetical malpractice case involving failure to order a PSA test. Better documentation that a patient made an informed decision to decline a PSA test appeared to provide more medical-legal protection for physicians, especially with the use of a decision aid.

Defensive medicine practices as a result of malpractice claims and workplace physical violence: a cross-sectional study from Egypt.

Defensive medicine refers to practices motivated mainly by legal rather than medical purposes.
