Effect of a health belief model-based educational intervention on oral-dental health behaviors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: an experimental study.

Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are at increased risk for oral-dental complications, yet there is limited evidence from Iran on whether theory-based educational interventions can produce sustained improvements in oral-dental self-care behaviors in this population. This non-blinded experimental study was conducted in 2023-2024 among patients with type 2 diabetes registered at the Fasa Diabetes Center. A total of 220 participants were randomly allocated to an intervention group (n = 110) or a control group (n = 110). Sample size was calculated using the formula for comparing two independe

Intervention effect of small extracellular vesicles derived from dental pulp stem cells on a high-altitude pulmonary edema model in male rats.

High-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) is a life-threatening disorder caused by hypobaric hypoxia and characterized by pulmonary injury, oxidative stress, and inflammation. We investigated the effects of small extracellular vesicles derived from dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs-sEVs) in a rat model of HAPE as well as hypoxia-injured pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVECs). Rats were exposed to hypobaric hypoxia for 96 h. Lung injury was assessed by histology and immunofluorescence (VEGF, TNF-α, Occludin). Pulmonary permeability was evaluated by total protein in bronchoalveolar lavage flu

Regenerative potential of a polylactic acid/nano hydroxyapatite scaffold functionalized with fucoidan and dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells in a rat mandibular defect model.

This study evaluated bone regeneration using a composite scaffold of polylactic acid (PLA) and nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) surface-coated with fucoidan (FCD) in a rat mandibular defect model. PLA/nHA scaffolds were fabricated by solvent casting/particulate leaching and subsequently coated with FCD (PLA/nHA@FCD). Scaffolds were characterized by SEM, FTIR, XRD, TGA, mechanical testing, and water contact angle measurement. Cytocompatibility was assessed using an MTT assay with dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells (DP-MSCs). In vivo, mandibular defects were treated with (i) empty control, (ii) PLA/nHA

Dental pulp stem cells therapy overcome photoreceptor cell death and protects the retina in a rat model of sodium iodate-induced retinal degeneration.

Blindness and vision loss contribute to irreversible retinal degeneration, and cellular therapy for retinal cell replacement has the potential to treat individuals who have lost light sensitive photoreceptors in the retina. Retinal cells are well characterized in function, and are a subject of interest in cellular replacement therapy of photoreceptors and the retinal pigment epithelium. However, retinal cell transplantation is limited by various factors, including the choice of potential stem cell source that can show variability in plasticity as well as host tissue integration. Dental pulp is

Fatigue Behavior of Dental Implants Affected by Peri-Implantitis-Related Bone Loss: Influence of Implantoplasty Evaluated Through In Vitro Testing and Finite Element Modeling.

Background/Objectives: Peri-implantitis is a common complication affecting approximately 24% of dental implants and is characterized by progressive bone loss and reduced implant stability. Implantoplasty, an intraoral procedure used to remove biofilm by machining the titanium implant surface, has become increasingly common in clinical practice. However, this procedure may compromise the mechanical integrity of implants, especially when combined with peri-implant bone loss, potentially leading to premature fatigue failure. This study evaluated the effect of different marginal bone resection dep

Transplantation of human dental pulp stem cells compensates for striatal atrophy and modulates neuro-inflammation in 3-nitropropionic acid rat model of Huntington's disease.

Stem cell-based therapy has recently offered a promising alternative for the remedy of neurodegenerative disorders like Huntington's disease (HD). Herein, we investigated the potential ameliorative effects of implantation of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) in 3-nitropropionic acid (3-NP) rat models of HD. In this regard, human DPSCs were isolated, culture-expanded and implanted in rats lesioned with 3-NP. Post-transplantation examinations revealed that DPSCs were able to survive and augment motor skills and muscle activity. Histological analysis showed DPSCs treatment hampered the shrinkage of
