Psychological distress, self-determination, and social capital associated with quality of life among retirees in Sarawak: a cross-sectional structural equation modelling analysis.

BACKGROUND: Population aging is accelerating in middle-income countries; however, evidence on the psychosocial factors associated with later-life quality of life (QoL) remains limited in Southeast Asian settings. Psychological distress, self-determination, and social capital have each been linked to well-being in older populations, but few studies have examined these constructs together among retirees in geographically dispersed, multiethnic populations. This study examined the associations between psychological distress, self-determination, social capital, catastrophic health expenditure (CHE

Relationships between social support, resilience and psychological distress among young offenders in Ghana's correctional facilities: A three-wave longitudinal mediation model.

Youth incarceration is beset by psychological challenges, often amplifying distress and hindering healthy development. This study investigates the relationships among social support, resilience, and psychological distress among incarcerated juveniles in Ghana's correctional facilities. A three-wave longitudinal study (6-month interval) was used in a sample of 220 incarcerated juveniles (with a mean age of 16.71 years and SD of 1.53) in both junior and senior correctional centres. The results indicate that resilience at T2 mediated the effect of social support at T1 on psychological distress at

Unpacking Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Mental Health in Internally Displaced Persons: A Mediation-Moderation Model of Psychological Capital and Perceived Social Support.

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) face severe physical, emotional, and social challenges due to conflict, climate change, and other crises. Ethiopia has the highest number of IDPs in Africa, primarily due to ethnic conflicts and climate-related disasters, placing them at a high risk for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and psychological distress (anxiety, emotional well-being, and depression, referred to as mental health (MH)). This study examines PTSD's direct predictive role on IDPs' (MH) in Debre Berhan Town, Ethiopia, the mediating role of psychological capital (PsyCap), and the mod

Mathematical modeling and dynamic analysis of dengue fever: examining economic and psychological impacts and forecasting disease trends through 2030-a case study of Nepal.

Dengue fever is a viral disease predominantly found in tropical and subtropical regions. The mild form presents with fever and flu-like symptoms, whereas the severe form can cause significant bleeding, a drastic drop in blood pressure, and even death. A mathematical model was developed consisting of ten classes: seven for humans and three for mosquitoes. The model was then reduced to eight classes to better simulate the transmission dynamics of the dengue virus. In numerical experiments, it was fitted to dengue infection data from 2022 and from 2004 to 2022 in Nepal using the least squares met

Stigma and psychological health in psoriasis patients based on the dual-factor model of mental health: the chain mediating roles of social appearance anxiety and alexithymia.

BACKGROUND: Patients with psoriasis also often experience stigma due to skin lesions, and this stigma further leads to severe psychological problems such as anxiety and depression. However, it is unclear how, and under what conditions, stigma relates to mental health. This study aimed to investigate the current status and interrelationships between stigma, social appearance anxiety, alexithymia, and mental health in patients with psoriasis. It also sought to identify the factors that influenced their mental health and to examine the mediating roles of social appearance anxiety and alexithymia

Identifying mental health outcomes and evidence-based psychological interventions for supporting pediatric gunshot wound patients: A systematic review and proposed conceptual model.

BACKGROUND: Accidental and assault gunshot wounds (GSWs) are the second leading cause of injury in the United States for youth ages 1- to 17-years-old, resulting in significant negative effects on pediatric patients' mental health functioning. Despite the critical implications of GSWs, there has yet to be a systematic review synthesizing trends in mental health outcomes for pediatric patients; a gap the present review fills. Additionally, this review identifies evidence-based psychological interventions shown to be effective in the treatment of subclinical symptoms of psychological disorders i

From scrolling to swinging: a chain mediation model of psychological needs, social media use, participation motivation, and behavioral intention in Chinese college pickleball players.

The present study explores the internal mechanism by which psychological needs are associated with college students' intention to play pickleball, focusing on the mediating roles of social media use and participation motivation. By integrating three theories-Self-Determination Theory (SDT), the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), and Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT)-this paper aims to construct and test a chain mediation model. A cross-sectional questionnaire survey, based on stratified convenience sampling, was conducted among 1,992 college students from 12 universities in six provinces of

Comprehensive single-cell transcriptomic reveals different destinies of melanocytes and dynamic changes of immune microenvironment in a psychological stress-induced leukoderma and leukotrichia mouse model.

BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is an acquired skin depigmentation disorder often accompanied by leukoderma and leukotrichia. Half of vitiligo patients experience episodes of stress. METHODS: We established a chronic unpredictable mild stimulation (CUMS) model in C57BL/6 J mice to simulate chronic mental stress-induced leukoderma and leukotrichia. Single-cell RNA sequencing was performed to determine the immune landscape and to characterize the relationship between immune-stromal cells. Immunohistochemistry was employed for validation. RESULTS: We discovered a similar pro-inflammatory micro-environment

Psychological factors in adherence to COVID-19 public health restrictions in Italy: A path model testing depressed mood, anxiety, and co-rumination via cellphone.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the success of major non-pharmaceutical interventions, such as quarantine orders, has depended upon robust rates of citizens' adherence to protocols. Thus, it is critical to public health for research to illuminate factors that affect compliance with contagion-mitigating practices. Previous research has examined sociodemographic factors and aspects of psychological distress as correlates of adherence to public health guidelines. The current study expanded this research to investigate the psychosocial process of co-rumination, which has been identified in previous
