Clinical significance of soluble CD26 in malignant pleural mesothelioma.

There is no established single diagnostic marker for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). CD26 is a 110 kDa, multifunctional, membrane-bound glycoprotein that has dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) enzyme activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical significance of soluble CD26 (sCD26) in patients with MPM. The study included 80 MPM patients, 79 subjects with past asbestos exposure (SPE), and 134 patients with other benign pleural diseases (OPD) that were included as a control group. sCD26 levels and DPPIV activity in serum and/or pleural fluid were determined using an ELISA kit.

Recent Advances in Nanozymes Toward Diabetic Foot Ulcers.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are one of the most serious and intractable complications of diabetes, caused by oxidative stress due to hyperglycemia, chronic inflammation, and repeated infections. Conventional treatments such as insulin therapy do not improve the pathological wound microenvironment, resulting in slow healing and a high rate of recurrence. Nanozymes, with superior catalytic stability, tuneable enzyme-like activities, and multifunctional synergy, have emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy. Nanozymes that imitate natural enzymes such as glucose oxidase, peroxidase, catalase,

Interleukin-11 reduces T-cell-dependent experimental liver injury in mice.

Recombinant human interleukin-11 (rhIL-11) is a multifunctional cytokine that can reduce inflammation through the downregulation of multiple pro-inflammatory mediators from activated macrophages. rhIL-11 also inhibits production of several immunostimulatory cytokines such as IL-12 and interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) and has shown biological activity in multiple animal models of inflammatory disease consistent with immunomodulatory effects on macrophages and T cells. To further elucidate the anti-inflammatory activity of rhIL-11 in vivo, the effect of rhIL-11 in a model of Concanavalin A (Con-A)-i

Vitronectin.

Vitronectin is a multifunctional glycoprotein present in blood and in the extracellular matrix. It binds glycosaminoglycans, collagen, plasminogen and the urokinase-receptor, and also stabilizes the inhibitory conformation of plasminogen activation inhibitor-1. By its localization in the extracellular matrix and its binding to plasminogen activation inhibitor-1, vitronectin can potentially regulate the proteolytic degradation of this matrix. In addition, vitronectin binds to complement, to heparin and to thrombin-antithrombin III complexes, implicating its participation in the immune response

Multifunctional miRNA delivery systems provide synergistic neuroprotection against cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury.

Effectively alleviating cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is challenging despite the medical advances. Prompt restoration of blood flow after ischemic stroke causes secondary damage to the brain tissues, triggers neuroinflammation and overproduces reactive oxygen species (ROS). MiRNA regulates the genes involved in neuron apoptosis and neuroinflammation, thus exhibiting potential in ameliorating cerebral I/R injury. However, as miRNA is vulnerable to degradation, its effective delivery faces obstacles in clinical applications. Inspired by the therapeutic potential of miR-210 inhibitor
