Assessing the information needs of post-myocardial infarction patients: a systematic review.

We systematically reviewed studies examining information needs of post-myocardial infarction patients and their families. Electronic databases and bibliographies of relevant papers were searched and experts in the field contacted to find relevant studies. A standardised data form was used to extract data on study populations, instruments and results. Of 14 published studies, 6 used the same instrument. Information about risk factors ranked as the most important category overall, followed by information on cardiac anatomy and physiology, medications, and physical activity. Information about mis

Assessment of as needed use of pharmacotherapy and the pause-squeeze technique in premature ejaculation.

The objective was to compare the efficacy and safety of the as needed use of clomipramine, sertraline, paroxetine, sildenafil and the pause-squeeze technique in treatment of primary premature ejaculation. A prospective double blind randomized crossover study involving 31 patients was performed. Treatment phases comprised five 4-week consecutive treatment periods, each separated by a two-week washout period. Patients were randomly assigned to receive each of the 4 drugs and use pause-squeeze on an as needed basis. Drugs were administered 3 to 5 hours before anticipated coitus. Anxiety score and

Assessing the need for Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) training: the Oregon experience.

BACKGROUND: Despite the widely held perception that CBE training has high priority among the continuing medical education (CME) needs of breast health care providers, there is actually little published information to support this notion. METHODS: The authors conducted a statewide needs assessment mail survey of providers regarding a number of potential CME needs, including CBE training. RESULTS: Of the 4,179 surveys from the single mailing, 1,427 were returned (34% response rate). Six categories of provider types responded; 51% were physicians and 23% were nurse practitioners. Fifty-nine per

Doppler ultrasound assessment of TIPS patency and function--the need for echo enhancers.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to illustrate the versatility of an i.v. administered echo enhancer for Doppler US assessment of TIPS patency and function. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 22 Doppler US evaluations of TIPS patency and function were performed in 5 patients with alcoholic cirrhosis and recurrent oesophageal bleeding who had been treated with TIPS. TIPS patency was evaluated by means of colour or power Doppler US. The volume flow (VF) was assessed in the TIPS and in the portal vein by spectral Doppler. The ratio of the VF in the TIPS to the VF in the portal vein (T/P ratio) w

Assessing health needs in people with severe learning disabilities: a qualitative approach.

The nursing assessment, and the contribution it makes to the identification of an individual's health needs, is often a complex and multidimensional process. This is always true when the individual concerned has a severe learning disability. The nurse should develop the assessment in partnership with individuals who may experience major communication difficulties, or have unappreciated levels of perceptual or cognitive dysfunction. They may also live with the ongoing possibility that their affective or behavioural responses may be misinterpreted as 'challenging behaviour'. This case study focu

[Panlobular emphysema. Value of radiology to assess the need for surgery (author's transl)].

Surgical decompression in 12 patients with panlobular emphysema and severe respiratory insufficiency, over the last 5 years, gave encouraging postoperative results. Preoperative radiological examination results were well correlated with findings during operation. Signs of thoracic distention and diffuse peripheral hypovascularization were noted in all cases. Furthermore, at least on the affected side, all patients showed avascular zones presenting as large bullae or as bullous zones extending over at least half of the hemothorax region, and compression signs affecting the lung parenchyma, the

Post-stroke pain syndromes in Africa: epidemiology, clinical phenotypes, and unmet needs in assessment and management.

Stroke disproportionately affects Africa, where incidence and prevalence rates rank among the highest reported worldwide, and case-fatality remains high. As acute survival improves in many, though not all, African settings, the burden of chronic post-stroke sequelae is growing, yet non-motor complications such as pain remain comparatively neglected in both clinical practice and research relative to motor and cognitive outcomes. Post-stroke pain is a heterogeneous group of syndromes, including central post-stroke pain, hemiplegic shoulder pain, spasticity-related musculoskeletal pain, post-stro

Bridging the gap in headache care: a qualitative needs assessment for primary care education in Indonesia.

INTRODUCTION: Headache is a common complaint encountered in primary care. In Indonesia, however, only migraine and tension-type headache are expected to be fully managed by general practitioners (GPs). Effective management requires a comprehensive understanding of headache diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate referral in primary care settings. Educational interventions for GPs are therefore essential to address existing unmet needs. This study aims to conduct a needs assessment to identify barriers in headache management in primary care and to determine gaps that can inform the development of

A qualitative, community-based needs assessment to inform the development of a radiology health equity curriculum.

BACKGROUND: Recognizing barriers to care is crucial for radiologists to ensure equitable access and quality care for all patients. Health equity trainings have shown promising results in helping providers understand unique patient needs. PURPOSE: To perform community-based focus groups to gather needs assessment data as the foundation for a health equity curriculum for radiology professionals. METHODS: We conducted focus groups to gather in-depth qualitative data regarding health inequities in radiology. Radiology residents, medical students, and community partners were recruited from two la

Movement behaviour education for parents in prenatal, postnatal, and pediatric care in Canada: A needs assessment.

BACKGROUND: Parents/guardians can greatly influence their child's movement behaviours (i.e., physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep). Yet, they have reported to lack sufficient background knowledge to foster healthy movement habits, and little is known about specific educational gaps. The aim of this study was to explore the educational background and needs regarding promoting healthy movement behaviours in early childhood among parents/guardians living in Canada. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with parents/guardians living in Canada who had at least one child under

Needs assessment in long-term care: expression of national principles for priority setting in service allocation.

BACKGROUND: Long-term care services for older adults are characterised by increasing needs and scarce resources. Political strategies have led to the reorganisation of long-term care services, with an increased focus on "ageing in place" and efficient use of resources. There is currently limited research on the processes by which resource allocation decisions are made by service allocators of long-term care services for older adults. The aim of this study is to explore how three political principles for priority setting in long-term care, resource, severity and benefit, are expressed in servic

Reading Lessons Planning With Students With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Mind: Needs-Based Assessment Proposal.

This study addresses the need to reinforce the reading learning of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in general education classrooms. A standardized way of assessing support needs in reading (SNr) from the teachers' perspective is proposed. The objectives were (i) to develop an instrument and evaluate its properties and (ii) to preliminarily assess the support needs in reading of students with IDD. Participants were 86 Chilean elementary school teachers who responded about the support needs of their own students. The instrument assesses three dimensions (i.e., rep

Assessment of caregiver needs in parents of children suffering from neurodevelopmental disorders in an Indian population.

Parents of children with neurodevelopmental disorders have significant unmet needs in various domains, particularly in a Low-Middle Income Country setting such as India. This study assessed parental needs using a Hindi version of the Caregiver Needs Scale (CNS) and found that 65.7% of the respondents expressed a definite need for help in all the items of the scale. The total score on CNS showed a significant negative correlation with the age of the child. Age of parent showed a significant negative correlation with scores for community and support needs.

Use of rapid needs assessment as a tool to identify vaccination delays in Guatemala and Peru.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the use of rapid needs assessment (RNA) surveys to determine the prevalence and factors contributing to delays in vaccination of children in two low middle-income countries (LMIC). METHODS: Data from two RNA surveys performed as part of program improvement evaluations in Guatemala and Peru were used for this analysis. The primary endpoint was the timeliness of immunization with delay defined as administration of vaccines beyond 28 days from recommended age for DTwP-HepB-Hib (Penta) and measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccines, as well as past age-restrictions for rotavirus v

Assessing needs and goals of dementia caregivers: development of the COPE-ING measure.

BACKGROUND: Supportive interventions and outcome measures for caregivers typically focus on alleviating and evaluating negative psychosocial dimensions of caregiving. Caregiver instruments that focus narrowly on measuring and evaluating burden, strain, depression and anxiety may overlook a given caregiver's individual needs and goals. There is an urgent need to develop psychometrically sound tools that capture caregivers' unique needs and priorities. This study examines the psychometric properties of the novel Caregiver Outcomes of Psychotherapy Evaluation-Individualized Needs and Goals (COPE-
