A gas-sensor utilizing cataluminescence (CTL) on nanosized gamma-Al2O3 + Nd2O3 for measuring low concentrations of gaseous ethylene dichloride (EDC) was developed. The effects of low-power neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser light delivered intrahepatically in normal rats have been studied. Power settings of 0.5-2.0 W and exposures of 50-2400 s produced well-defined, highly reproducible necrotic lesions of up to 16 mm in diameter. A 55-year-old Japanese woman presented with recurrent multiple vesicles on the soft palate. Some vesicles ruptured spontaneously but soon recurred, and the patient felt mild pain and discomfort. Histopathologically, intraepithelial mucocele with mucus retention in the salivary ducts was observed. The lesion was successfully treated with Nd: YAG Contact Laser. Fibrosing mediastinitis is underdiagnosed because of the nonspecific character of the presenting symptoms. The endobronchial findings obtained via flexible bronchoscopy are not defined in the literature. We describe 3 cases of fibrosing mediastinitis, most likely caused by histoplasmosis. INTRODUCTION: Hemangiomas are the most common tumors of the eyelids and orbit in childhood. These tumors can produce ptosis, strabismus and anisometropia, resulting in amblyopia. This case series describes the treatment of 2 patients with chronic plaque psoriasis refractory to conventional topical corticosteroid therapy. Thirty-five patients with moderate to severe acne were treated with a fractional 1320 nm neodymium : yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd : YAG) laser. These patients received six treatment sessions at a 2-week interval. Inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions were counted before and after treatment. Fractional 1320 nm Nd : YAG laser therapy was well tolerated, resulting in the reduction of inflammatory lesions by 57% (P<0.05) and the reduction of non-inflammatory lesions by 35% (P<0.05). A significant reduction in the skin sebum level by 30% (P<0.05) was also noted after treatment.

We describe a 49-year-old white man with sympathetic ophthalmia following contact neodymium-YAG laser cyclotherapy. There was no invasive surgery, and no perforating injuries preceded cyclodestructive therapy. The eye had hemorrhagic secondary glaucoma due to Coats' disease. Laser iridotomy is the procedure of choice for primary angle-closure glaucoma. The authors report a new visual disturbance after neodymium (Nd): YAG laser iridotomy.
