BACKGROUND: Fever is one of the most common symptoms in children and a leading cause of their hospitalisation. Nurses, as primary caregivers in paediatric wards, play a pivotal role in the assessment and management of children with fever. However, nurses' perceptions and experiences of fever management are influenced by cultural contexts, psychological and social factors, as well as prevailing health system policies.
AIM: The aim of the study was to explore nurses' perceptions influencing their management of childhood fever, including barriers and facilitators to evidence-based practice.

BACKGROUND: The United States declared endemic measles eliminated in 2000. However, outbreaks continued, with resurgences in 2019 and 2025. In 2025, more than 2200 cases across 48 outbreaks, the most since 1992, were reported. In the first half of 2026, 2073 cases were reported. Declining measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination rates have increased susceptibility among children. Acute and critical care nurses are central to early recognition and management of measles for optimal outcomes.
OBJECTIVE: To summarize current evidence on measles epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation,

Nurses practicing in forensic mental health hospital settings work with patients involved in the criminal justice system who are also diagnosed with psychiatric illnesses. Nurses work towards collaborative and therapeutic relationships with patients with an eventual goal of recovery and successful discharge to the community. Though the majority of patients in these settings in Canada are diagnosed with psychotic disorders, a smaller proportion may be diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), a patient population often described as 'difficult' or even 'untreatable' by nurses. BACKGROUND: The transnational migration of African nurses negatively impacts nurse-to-population ratios and life expectancy indices in many African countries. Understanding migration decisions, destination preferences, and recruitment practices of African nurses is crucial for identifying appropriate and effective retention interventions.
OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this scoping review are to examine the state of evidence in relation to the decisions surrounding international African nurse migration, as well as destinations preferences and recruitment practices employed to attract African nu

This article explores how nursing ethics can be informed by the experiences and perspectives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning plus (LGBTQ+) people. It discusses research on cancer disparities for LGBTQ+ patients, demonstrating the need for culturally tailored interventions. Research in this area often has a narrow focus on improving care for marginalised groups, rather than considering what dominant healthcare approaches could learn from these groups. Through examining queer theory and areas such as human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) and acquired immunodeficien

BACKGROUND: Transitioning to a professional role is difficult for newly qualified professional nurses. Given the challenges that these nurses experience during the transition to practice, support is essential for them to become efficient, safe, confident, and competent in their professional roles.
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to explore the transition experiences of newly qualified professional nurses to develop a preceptorship model.

OBJECTIVES: Advanced practice nursing roles in cancer care are diverse and exist across the cancer care continuum. However, the titles used and the scope of practice differ across countries. This diversity is likely to be misleading to patients and influence nurses' contribution to health care. An understanding of the current state of advanced practice nursing roles in cancer care internationally is needed to inform opportunities for future role development and enhance cancer nursing career pathways.
METHODS: This scoping review included a systematic search of four databases: MEDLINE, CINAHL,

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this scoping review is to map the available literature on the role of specialist lung cancer nurses.
INTRODUCTION: The international literature acknowledges the importance of specialist cancer nurses who provide supportive care to patients. Historically, however, there has been a lack of consistent evidence to inform development and implementation of the role.
INCLUSION CRITERIA: This review will consider quantitative and qualitative studies of any design or methodology that report on role characteristics or behaviors, practices, or activities, or other aspects of

BACKGROUND: Acute aortic dissection (AAD) is a rare condition but represents a time-sensitive disease for which a wrong and untimely identification in the triage phase could compromise the subsequent diagnostic, therapeutic path and patient's prognosis. The emergency nurse plays a crucial role in identifying and managing patients with possible AAD. The aim of this paper is to describe the emergency department nursing approach to critical patients with suspected hyperacute/acute AAD.
PURPOSE: It is crucial to examine the emergency departments nursing approach to patients with suspected AAD. It

Patient engagement has gained increasing attention in cancer care as it is widely acknowledged as an essential element of high-quality care. There are limited data on how oncology nurses might apply techniques that encourage patient engagement. Therefore, this study aims to understand which nursing strategies can favour patient engagement in oncological care from patients' and nurses' perspectives. We conducted a qualitative study involving oncology patients and oncology nurses. Patients were interviewed, while nurses were involved in focus groups (FGs). Both interviews and FGs were analysed b

The setting up of an advanced practice nursing activity to monitor patients with severe or very severe pneumonia associated with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2, is a reponse to the population's new health care needs and a massive influx of patients. The skills of the advanced practice nurse are mobilised in this context in order to carry out prevention missions and screening for potential sequelae which could lead to chronic respiratory failure.

Japan is challenged with unique social problems because of its declining birthrate and rapidly aging population. By the year 2025, all of Japan's baby boomers will be 75 years or older, making Japan a "superaging" society. Japanese healthcare expenditures are rapidly climbing because of the need for increasingly complex medical-surgical treatments for this aging population. In addition, a major shortage of anesthesiologists has produced serious threats to patient safety, as well as to quality and timeliness of surgical care. In an attempt to meet the demand for anesthesia services and to ensur

BACKGROUND: Transthoracic intracardiac catheters are central catheters placed in the operating room at the conclusion of cardiac surgery for infants and children. Complications associated with these catheters (eg, bleeding, migration, premature removal, infection, leakage, and lack of function) have been described. However, no researchers have addressed the nursing management of these catheters in the intensive care unit, including catheter dressing and securement, mobilization of patients, and flushing the catheters, or the impact of these interventions on patients' outcomes.

Interprofessional collaboration involves some kind of knowledge sharing, which is essential and will be important in the future in regard to the opportunities and challenges in practices for delivering safe and effective health care. Nursing assistants are seldom mentioned as a group of health care workers that contribute to interprofessional collaboration in health care practice. The aim of this ethnographic study was to explore how the nursing assistants' knowledge can be shared in a team on a spinal cord injury rehabilitation ward. Using a sociomaterial perspective on practice, we captured

OBJECTIVES: Antibiotic stewardship has been called for across all sites of health care, including nursing homes (NHs). Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are the third most common indication for antibiotics in the NH, and so should be a focus of stewardship. This study audited medical records to identify signs and symptoms of SSTIs treated with antibiotics in relation to the McGeer criteria for surveillance, the Loeb minimum criteria for antibiotic initiation, and prescribing recommendations of the Infectious Disease Society of America.
DESIGN: Cross-sectional study.
