Forced eruption combined with gingival fiberotomy. A technique for clinical crown lengthening.

A new approach to clinical crown lengthening has been developed and described. The technique combines controlled eruptive tooth movement and incision of the supracrestal gingival attachment. The procedure was performed in patients with severe destruction of a tooth crown and in whom clinical crown lengthening procedures were essential before the teeth could be properly restored. Controlled eruptive forces were activated by simple orthodontic appliances. During the active phase of forced eruption, repeated intrasulcular incisions through the junctional epithelium and the supracrestal connective

Malocclusion in the primary dentition in children with and without deformational plagiocephaly.

OBJECTIVES: Asymmetries of the jaw and orthodontic abnormalities are suspected as long-term consequences of positional cranial deformity. But only few data exist on this issue. As plagiocephaly is a common problem in infancy, potential functional impairments should be investigated to initiate appropriate measures if necessary. The aim of our study was to compare the orthodontic situation in primary dentition of children with positional plagiocephaly and children without cranial deformities. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty children treated by helmet therapy for plagiocephaly and 50 non-affected ch

Mouthwashes for the control of supragingival biofilm and gingivitis in orthodontic patients: evidence-based recommendations for clinicians.

Properly performed daily mechanical biofilm control is the most important prevention strategy for periodontal diseases. However, proper mechanical biofilm control is not performed effectively by the majority of the population, mainly due to lack of motivation and of manual dexterity. Local biofilm retention factors may aggravate home oral hygiene quality. For this reason, patients wearing fixed orthodontic appliances comprise a group that may benefit from the daily use of mouthwashes. The purpose of this review was to perform a systematic search in the literature on antiseptics used to control

Orthodontics in 12-year old children. Demand, treatment motivating factors and treatment decisions.

Ninety-three per cent of all 12-year old patients at a clinic in western Sweden accepted an invitation to take part in a dental examination in order to evaluate early orthodontic treatment. Treatment in the primary or mixed dentition periods should aim at creating normal craniofacial, occlusal and dental development and, if possible, at reducing the need for later, more complicated treatment. The treatment success was low regarding overjet correction but fairly good with regard to diagnosis and treatment of crossbite/forced occlusion, ectopic eruption and congenitally missing teeth. Whether co

Pulp and periodontal healing, root development and root resorption subsequent to transplantation and orthodontic rotation: a long-term study of autotransplanted premolars.

One hundred and eighteen premolars transplanted at a stage with 3/4 to 4/4 root development with a wide open apical foramen were followed with standardized clinical and radiographic techniques for signs of pulpal and periodontal ligament healing and root development. Pulp healing, evaluated first by radiographic presence of pulp canal obliteration, appeared to be an earlier sign of pulp healing than the detection of pulp vitality with an electrometric test. Continued root growth of premolars was seen in some cases. Complete arrest of root development was usually followed by development of the

Biostimulation-Based Approaches for Gingival Tissue Augmentation in Thin Periodontal Phenotype: Potential Applications for Orthodontic Patients.

Gingival recession, particularly in patients exhibiting a thin periodontal phenotype, is a prevalent and challenging complication associated with orthodontic treatment, among other factors. Recent advances in biostimulation therapies aim to support soft tissue augmentation by increasing gingival thickness (GT) and keratinized tissue width (KTW) while minimizing the need for invasive surgical procedures. This narrative review explores the available clinical evidence regarding several biostimulation techniques, including injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF), microneedling (MN), concentrated g

[Multidisciplinary treatment strategies for adult dentition diastemata].

Adult dentition diastemata are induced by multiple factors including congenital developmental abnormalities, pathological remodeling of periodontal tissue, dentition defects, occlusal trauma and systemic metabolic diseases, and are frequently accompanied by a series of complications such as impaired masticatory function, compromised anterior esthetics and progressive periodontal destruction. Due to decreased alveolar bone remodeling activity and prolonged tooth movement cycle in adults, monodisciplinary treatment cannot simultaneously achieve balanced function, satisfactory esthetics and long-

Forastero cacao bean extract gel decreases IL-6 positive osteoblasts, osteoclasts, and osteocytes on OIRR model: A primitive study.

BACKGROUND: Malocclusion can be corrected with orthodontic treatment to improve function and aesthetics. Orthodontic treatment patients have the potential to produce greater Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), as evidenced by an increase in the Oxidative Status Index (OSI) a week after treatment. As a result, oxidative stress may induce an imbalance of bone remodeling through intensifying osteoclastogenesis by expressing pro-inflammatory cytokine, namely Interleukin-6 (IL-6). The worst pathological condition that can occur is Orthodontic-Induced Root Resorption (OIRR), a resorptive area on the root

Comprehensive space management and treatment of a patient with an early traumatic missing maxillary central incisor: a case report.

BACKGROUND: For patients missing the maxillary central incisor in childhood, resorption of the alveolar bone in the area of the missing teeth over time can increase the difficulty of performing later prosthodontic treatments. Early loss of permanent teeth is also one of the main causes of malocclusion. Early and effective space management will have a positive effect on the child's psychological and facial development. Moving the adjacent teeth to the central incisors may help to maintain the alveolar bone in the space of missing teeth, thereby preventing the development or complication of malo
