A 46-year-old woman had been suffering from recurrent bilateral keratoconjunctivitis, vascularized corneal scars, and incipient pannus vasculosus for five years. Oculogenital chlamydial disease was diagnosed by Giemsa stains, McCoy cell culture, and serum IgG immunofluorescent techniques. Isolates from cervical smears were positive for C. trachomatis in cell cultures. An aneurysm of a 14-mm Contegra bovine conduit 5 years after a total repair of tetralogy of Fallot was confirmed by echocardiography, angiography, and magnetic resonance tomography. Between December 1983 and June 1984 280 patients with keratoconjunctivitis had a laboratory work-up for Chlamydia trachomatis infections. Serologic or culture tests produced positive results in 114 cases. Of these, 3 were neonatal blennorrheas and 111 chlamydial keratoconjunctivitides in adults. Of 76 members of a large pedigree with familial aniridia, 61% of the 38 affected patients had visual acuity of 6/9 (20/30) or better and only 5% had acuity of 6/60 (20/200) or worse. Cataracts were present in 18% of affected patients; glaucoma in 13%; and strabismus in 34%. Sixteen percent of affected patients had strabismic amblyopia. No patient had nystagmus or corneal pannus. The good visual acuity in this family, as compared to that in others, indicates that the absence of iris tissue alone cannot account for the severe visual problems usually associated with aniridia.

In a study of 30 patients with longstanding rheumatoid arthritis the diagnostic usefulness of ultra low field MR equipment was analyzed in assessing lesions of the craniocervical junction. A 73-year-old woman underwent both mitral and aortic valve replacements with porcine heart valve prostheses because of severe mitral regurgitation and severe aortic regurgitation. Ten months after surgery, maximal flow velocity of the aortic valve reached 4.6 m/sec and moderate mitral regurgitation was detected.
