OBJECTIVE: To analyze ethical aspects of Brazilian articles on human visceral leishmaniasis, published after Resolution CNS 196/1996, and to analyze the policy on Brazilian periodicals on research ethics. METHODS: An explanatory study with a bibliographical and documental nature was conducted. Selection of publications on research involving human beings since 1996 was performed in the SciELO Brazil database. Gaps associated with editorial policies on medical periodicals, based on information obtained from the "Instructions to authors" section of each periodical, were analyzed. RESULTS: While

European Union scientific production on alcohol and drug misuse (1976-2000).

BACKGROUND: Alcohol and drug misuse is a social and health phenomenon of great relevance in the European Union (EU). One indicator of scientific production in a given area is the analysis of publications included in bibliographic databases. Scientific production on alcohol and drug misuse was analysed in EU member countries, and comparisons were made between countries. METHODS: Analysis of articles on alcohol and drug misuse published during the period 1976-2000 by institutions based in a country of the EU, indexed by PsycINFO. RESULTS: A total of 4825 citations was retrieved. Great Britain

A pilot study of high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin 5% for autism: Impact on autism spectrum and markers of neuroinflammation.

UNLABELLED: Research has shown that a subset of the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) population presents with immune dysregulation. To explore this topic further, we investigated the efficacy and tolerability of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) infusion in children with ASD. In this study, participants were recruited based on a diagnosis of autistic disorder, Asperger's disorder, or pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified. Participants also showed evidence of immune dysfunction based on abnormal levels of specific biomarkers, including CD40 ligand (CD154), lymphocyte stimulatio

A quarter-century of pain science in Türkiye: Thematic, institutional, and gender trends in AĞRI (2000-2025).

BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate thematic, institutional, and gender-related changes of AĞRI, the official journal of the Turkish Society of Algology. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We processed all open-access manuscripts published from January 2000 through December 2025 using a custom Python pipeline for metadata, affiliations, and rule-based topic clustering. Gender was inferred from a Turkish name-gender dictionary with manual adjudication. We measured female workforce participation, female corresponding authorship rate, and the Glass Ceiling Gap (GCG; workforce mean minus corresponding-aut

Recommendations for reporting findings from analyses using artificial intelligence and machine learning in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

We propose five recommendations to make AI-based research studies more suitable for a clinical readership. First, authors should justify the added value of complex and potentially more opaque AI approaches. Second, rigorous description of input data, diagnostic criteria, and preprocessing is essential to avoid biased or clinically irrelevant outcomes. Third, benchmarking against clinically relevant performance thresholds should be established a priori. Fourth, method sections should combine an accessible lay summary with detailed technical supplement. Fifth, model explainability is encouraged

To Whom National Culture Matters: An Analysis of Mentions of Countries in Titles and Abstracts in Social and Personality Psychology and Related Fields From 1990 to 2020.

Culture significantly influences human psychology, making it essential for psychological research, particularly in social psychology, to acknowledge its importance. However, the majority of psychological research ignores or marginalises culture and context. This is problematic because, despite representing a small portion of humanity (specifically Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich and Democratic (WEIRD) populations) mainstream psychology is published as if it represented the whole humanity. Among the subfields of psychology, social psychology is arguably the one in which this issue shoul

[Visual Analysis of the Current Status and Trends in Forensic Microbiology Research Based on Bibliometrics].

OBJECTIVES: To understand the current status and trends in forensic microbiology research using bibliometric analysis methods. METHODS: A total of 533 papers related to forensic microbiology published in the Web of Science Core Collection from 2010 to 2022 were selected as research objects. Bibliometrix and VOSviewer were used to conduct a visual analysis of the annual publication volume, journals, countries (regions), institutions, authors, and keywords co-occurrence networks in this field. RESULTS: The annual publication volume showed an overall upward trend, reaching a peak of 72 publicat

Editorial policies for ethical use of artificial intelligence in rheumatology journals.

BACKGROUND: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into research and publishing poses ethical challenges. Global editorial associations, including the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), have updated their recommendations to safeguard transparency and accountability for AI use. The extent to which these recommendations have been enforced in specialist journals remains unknown. OBJECTIVE: The aim of our study was to analyze the extent to which indexed rheumatology journals have adopted AI-related editorial policies, the scope of these policies, and their alignm

Trypanosomatid research in Brazil: a systematic analysis of regional and temporal trends.

BACKGROUND: Trypanosomatid infections such as Chagas disease (CD) and leishmaniasis remain major public-health concerns. Brazil has a long tradition in this field, yet a consolidated, country-level view of outputs, impact and collaboration patterns is useful to guide scientific policy. OBJECTIVES: To characterise Brazilian scientific production on Trypanosoma cruzi, Leishmania and Trypanosoma brucei (2010-2021), describing temporal trends, regional contributions, collaboration networks and journal impact. METHODS: We performed a bibliometric analysis of PubMed records retrieved with Medical

An Investigation of Historical Injustices in South Dakota Medical Journals: 1931-1960.

Exploration of the role of South Dakota medical journals in perpetuating historical biases and injustices from 1931 to 1960 continues a line of research that initially considered the period from 1912 to 1930. The Journal-Lancet and the South Dakota Journal of Medicine and Pharmacy as well as South Dakota newspapers (for eugenics only) in the years 1931-1960 were searched using key terms in five categories: Native American, Black American, the intellectual disabilities, gender and sexuality, and eugenics. Relevant articles containing key words were archived in databases (DEVONthink and Claris F

Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence in Medical Publishing: A Survey of Medical Journal Editors.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been increasingly integrated into medical publishing, hopefully improving efficiency and accuracy, but serious concerns persist regarding ethical implications, authorship attribution, and content reliability. We aimed at understanding the perspectives of editors of medical journals on AI. A structured online questionnaire was developed and distributed to editors-in-chief of medical journals worldwide. The survey comprised 27 concise questions exploring demographics, journal practices, and perspectives on AI in editorial workflows. Quantitative data were analyze

The use of Artificial Intelligence in neurosurgical manuscript writing: Journal specific policies and their implementation.

INTRODUCTION: The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has grown dramatically in recent years. In addition to its use for data analysis, its applications have extended to manuscript writing. In this article, we analyze the policies within top neurosurgical journals surrounding AI use for manuscript writing, its implementation, and whether disclosure of this practice affects article citation metrics. METHODS: Neurosurgical journals with h-indices ≥ 100 and with "spin*" or "neurosurg*" (including translations in other languages) and no other medical subspecialty within their title were included
