Citrullinemia is a urea cycle defect requiring long-term care with nutritional and pharmacological management. Despite treatment, morbidity and mortality of this disease remain high, and long-term complications include mild to profound mental retardation, seizures, and growth deficiency. We report a 31-year old woman with classic, neonatal-onset citrullinemia who developed progressive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and cataracts, neither of which has been recognized previously as a complication of the disease or a consequence of long-term drug treatment.

Using Rodenstock's Refraktometer refractometry was done on 314 hyperopic children (3--14 years) first after treating with Atropine and some weeks later after Cyclopentolat-hydrochlorid. 53,1% of them showed higher hyperopia after Atropine than after Cyclopentolat, the maximum in difference was 1,75 dptr. The effects of substituents on the steady state and pre-steady state kinetics in alpha-chymotrypsin [EC 3.4.21.1]-catalyzed hydrolysis were studied using substituted phenyl acetates. In the steady state hydrolysis, substrate activation, which had been observed and studied previously for p-nitrophenyl acetate, was also observed for p-bromo, p-chloro-, and m-methylphenyl acetates. We have studied the urinary excretion of 1,4-methylhistamine (1,4-MeHm), 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (5-HIAA) and homovanillic acid (HVA) in patients with Parkinson's disease, choreiform movements and essential tremor. The effect of amantadine on urinary excretion has been measured in each group of patients as well as the effect of levodopa in patients with Parkinson's disease. In patients with Parkinson's disease, excretion of 1,4-MeHm and HVA was significantly lower than in controls. The mydriasis provocative test with 1% cyclopentolate (CPT) was performed on 218 patients with suspected or untreated open-angle glaucoma, on 431 eyes in all. BACKGROUND: Iridocorneal endothelial (ICE) syndrome occurs mainly in young and middle-aged women and typically presents as a unilateral disease characterized by abnormalities of the iris and corneal endothelium. While the ICE syndrome is known to be associated with glaucoma and bullous keratopathy, to our knowledge, only two cases of ICE syndrome complicated with cystoid macular edema (CME) have been reported to date. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a common air pollutant and can cause harmful insults on neurons. Microglial activation has been implicated in the signaling cascades that contribute to neuronal cell death in various neurological disorders. In the present study, we found that SO2 derivatives decreased cell viability via inducing oxidative stress, inflammatory responses and apoptotic cell death in BV2 microglial cells. OBJECTIVE: To examine the efficacy of nepafenac in the treatment of pain and inflammation in patients after cataract surgery using evidence from controlled clinical studies.
DATA SOURCES: Citations in Google Scholar, PubMed, and Web of Science from January 1, 2005, to March 25, 2013, were identified using nepafenac and cataract as search terms.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this population analysis was to characterize the pharmacokinetic properties of robenacoxib in blood and stifle joint synovial fluid of dogs.
METHODS: Data were obtained from two studies: 1) 8 healthy Beagle dogs in which an acute inflammation was induced by injection of urate crystals into one joint; 2) 95 dogs from various breeds diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA). Robenacoxib concentrations in blood and synovial fluid were measured using a validated HPLC-UV and LC-MS method. Non-linear mixed effects modeling was performed using NONMEM6.

BACKGROUND: The efficacy of topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for inflammation in the anterior segment, and pain control after cataract surgery, is well established. However, their effectiveness in the posterior segment has not been as well studied. Nepafenac ophthalmic suspension, 0.1% is a new topical NSAID pro-drug that has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of pain and inflammation after cataract surgery. Preclinical data suggest nepafenac may also provide unique efficacy in the posterior segment.

After sulpiride (75 mg kg-1) administration, a significant increase in dopamine, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and homovanillic acid (HVA) occurred in the rat striatum.
