Tin protoporphyrin (SnPP) and analogs are being studied as possible agents for the prevention of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia through inhibition of heme oxygenase. Because SnPP is a photosensitizer, we studied its role in the photogeneration of carbon monoxide (CO) from organic compounds in vitro. The authors review literature data on porphyrias with combining enzymopathies in heme biosynthesis system, report a case of porphyria cutanea tarda and porphyria variegata registered simultaneously in a male patient clinically and confirmed biochemically. A delta 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) bioadhesive gel has been developed and evaluated in an in-vivo mouse model for photodynamic treatment of gastric cancer or Barrett's oesophagus. Chlorophyll is crucial in photosynthesis, enabling plants to absorb light energy for photosynthesis. Here, we identified a yellow-green leaf mutant ygl46 derived from natural variation. Protoporphyria, a photosensitizing disease documented only in humans, was transmitted as a recessive trait to seven female calves. Cutaneous lesions were extensive, and erythrocyte and fecal protoporphyrin concentrations exceeded by far those of human protoporphyria.
