Fetal MRI radiomics: non-invasive and reproducible quantification of human lung maturity.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the reproducibility of radiomics features extracted from the developing lung in repeated in-vivo fetal MRI acquisitions. METHODS: In-vivo MRI (1.5 Tesla) scans of 30 fetuses, each including two axial and one coronal T2-weighted sequences of the whole lung with all other acquisition parameters kept constant, were retrospectively identified. Manual segmentation of the lungs was performed using ITK-Snap. One hundred radiomics features were extracted from fetal lung MRI data using Pyradiomics, resulting in 90 datasets. Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) of radiomics …

Clinical and radiomics feature-based outcome analysis in lumbar disc herniation surgery.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is a widely prevalent symptom and the foremost cause of disability on a global scale. Although various degenerative imaging findings observed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have been linked to low back pain and disc herniation, none of them can be considered pathognomonic for this condition, given the high prevalence of abnormal findings in asymptomatic individuals. Nevertheless, there is a lack of knowledge regarding whether radiomics features in MRI images combined with clinical features can be useful for prediction modeling of treatment success. The objective …

Radiomics Can Distinguish Pediatric Supratentorial Embryonal Tumors, High-Grade Gliomas, and Ependymomas.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Pediatric supratentorial tumors such as embryonal tumors, high-grade gliomas, and ependymomas are difficult to distinguish by histopathology and imaging because of overlapping features. We applied machine learning to uncover MR imaging-based radiomics phenotypes that can differentiate these tumor types. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our retrospective cohort of 231 patients from 7 participating institutions had 50 embryonal tumors, 127 high-grade gliomas, and 54 ependymomas. For each tumor volume, we extracted 900 Image Biomarker Standardization Initiative-based PyRadiomics fe…

Prediction of blood supply in vestibular schwannomas using radiomics machine learning classifiers.

This study attempts to explore the radiomics-based features of multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and construct a machine-learning model to predict the blood supply in vestibular schwannoma preoperatively. By retrospectively collecting the preoperative MRI data of patients with vestibular schwannoma, patients were divided into poor and rich blood supply groups according to the intraoperative recording. Patients were divided into training and test cohorts (2:1), randomly. Stable features were retained by intra-group correlation coefficients (ICCs). Four feature selection methods …

Predicting intraventricular hemorrhage growth with a machine learning-based, radiomics-clinical model.

We constructed a radiomics-clinical model to predict intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) growth after spontaneous intracerebral hematoma. The model was developed using a training cohort (N=626) and validated with an independent testing cohort (N=270). Radiomics features and clinical predictors were selected using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method and multivariate analysis. The radiomics score (Rad-score) was calculated through linear combination of selected features multiplied by their respective LASSO coefficients. The support vector machine (SVM) method was use…

Radiomics-Based Assessment of Primary Sjögren's Syndrome From Salivary Gland Ultrasonography Images.

Salivary gland ultrasonography (SGUS) has shown good potential in the diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). However, a series of international studies have reported needs for improvements of the existing pSS scoring procedures in terms of inter/intra observer reliability before being established as standardized diagnostic tools. The present study aims to solve this problem by employing radiomics features and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to make the pSS scoring more objective and faster compared to human expert scoring. The assessment of AI algorithms was performed on a two-…

Decoding the Aneurysm Thrombus: Radiomic Signatures of Sac Shrinkage After EVAR.

BACKGROUND: Aneurysm sac shrinkage after endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) is a surrogate marker of effective aneurysm exclusion and favorable outcomes. Radiomics enables quantitative imaging analysis beyond visual assessment and is increasingly applied in cardiovascular imaging. Analysis of intraluminal thrombusmay may provide additional information for identifying patients with different patterns of sac remodeling after EVAR. METHODS: This single-center retrospective study assessed whether radiomic features of the intraluminal thrombus extracted from preoperative computed tomography angiogr…

Influence of scan mode, tilt, and radiation dose on CT radiomic metrics.

BACKGROUND: Radiomic features derived from computed tomography (CT) are highly susceptible to variations in acquisition parameters, which can introduce confounding effects in multicenter research and reduce diagnostic accuracy. While the effects of parameters such as scanning mode and dose have been studied, the impact of gantry tilt-despite its routine clinical use-remains underexplored in radiomics literature. PURPOSE: To systematically evaluate how scan mode (axial vs. helical), gantry tilt (0° vs. 5°), and radiation dose affect CT-based radiomic metrics using an anthropomorphic liver phan…

CardioRadNet: Cardiac mass diagnosis through integrated segmentation and radiomic analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Cardiac masses (CMs), though rare, include a wide spectrum of benign and malignant lesions that require distinct therapeutic strategies. Prior studies typically address narrow classification tasks (e.g., thrombus vs tumor) and rely on manually delineated regions. Building on these gaps, we introduce CardioRadNet: the first integrated framework combining deep learning segmentation and radiomics-based classification on contrast-free T1-weighted cardiac MR, designed to differentiate benign from malignant CMs. METHODS: A total of 127 patients with pathologically confirme…
