PURPOSE: To report a case of Staphylococcus epidermidis infection after subtenon injection (STI) of triamcinolone acetonide (TA).
DESIGN: Interventional case report.
METHODS: A 20-year-old patient with corneal graft rejection received STI of TA after insufficient response to topical and oral corticosteroids.

Posterior scleritis is an unusual disease that may cause serious ocular inflammation and potentially blinding consequences. To date, there are few cases of isolated posterior scleritis in children described in the literature. We report an unusual case of recurrent bilateral posterior scleritis after direct blunt trauma to the postequatorial aspect of the eye successfully controlled with long-term steroids and immunosuppressive therapy.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of deep intramuscular methylprednisolone (IMMP) in the treatment of recurrent scleritis.
METHODS: A total of 15 patients with scleritis (12 anterior, 3 pan) underwent IMMP injection deep into the thigh. Thirteen patients were already being treated with oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, oral prednisolone, an oral immunosuppressive agent, or a combination of these drugs. A second IMMP injection was given to nine patients, making a total of 24 injections. Follow-up ranged from 4 to 18 months.

A 23-year-old Chinese woman presented with necrotizing scleritis 10 months after diode laser cyclophotocoagulation for the treatment of her neovascular glaucoma. There were areas of scleral thinning with uveal prolapse in the superior quadrant. The inflammation and progression of the staphyloma were controlled with systemic steroids. Diode laser cyclophotocoagulation may not be safe in patients suspected to have underlying systemic vasculitic diseases.

The clinical manifestations of the disease, its course and response to the therapy were typical of the inflammatory state in the eye. Posterior scleritis is relatively uncommon and is often misdiagnosed due to its protean manifestations. We report eight cases of posterior scleritis to analyse the clinical profile, ultrasonographic and computed tomography (CT) scan features of this rare disorder. Posterior scleritis is an often misdiagnosed disease of the eye. Mainly it appears in elderly women and tends to be recurrent. Symptoms leading to diagnosis are swelling of the eye lids, a red eye, disturbances of the motility and protrusio bulbi. In rare cases you find exudative choroidal or retinal detachment, edema of the macula, or the optic nerve head, and secondary angle closure glaucoma.
