Renal leiomyoma is a rare smooth muscle tumor of the kidney. An association between Epstein-Barr virus and smooth muscle tumors in immunocompromised patients recently has been recognized. We describe a pediatric renal transplant patient who developed an Epstein-Barr virus-associated renal leiomyoma in his transplant kidney 5 years posttransplantation. Possible factors involved in the tumor pathogenesis in our patient are discussed, including immunosuppression, growth hormone therapy, and Epstein-Barr virus induction.

Ten renal smooth muscle tumors (seven leiomyomas, three leiomyosarcomas) and an unusual smooth muscle-invested renal cell carcinoma were studied for HMB-45 reactivity. BACKGROUND/AIM: To date few cases of smooth muscle-derived tumors of the adrenal gland have been reported and their treatment remains a medical challenge. The aim of this manuscript was to systematically review the literature and present the tumor characteristics and their management in order to provide a standardized approach to their diagnosis and management.

BACKGROUND: Atypical uterine leiomyomas show benign behavior. However, the distinction between leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas may at times be problematic. Our objective was to evaluate the diagnostic utility of 2 new proliferation markers, cyclin D1 and minichromosome maintenance complex component 2 (MCM2), in comparison with p16, p53, and Ki67 in differentiating the spectrum of smooth muscle tumors. An institutional database search from 2009 to 2017 identified 10 cases of uterine leiomyoma with bizarre nuclei (LBN), 12 smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential, and 13 leiomyosarcomas (LMS). Ten resected leiomyomas (LM) were included as controls. Immunohistochemistry was performed on the befitting representative block from each case.

We present a case of uterine dedifferentiated leiomyosarcoma in a 42-yr-old woman who presented with severe abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. The mass measured 10.5 cm. A 70-year-old woman presented with a 4-year history of painless conjunctival congestion and proptosis of the right eye. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 48-mm lesion in the right medial orbit. As the symptoms progressed, the tumor was resected by performing fronto-orbital craniotomy. Fibroadenoma and phyllodes tumor are the prototypical mammary fibroepithelial lesions (FELs).
