Achilles tendinopathy and partial tear diagnosis using dual-energy computed tomography collagen material decomposition application.

Computed tomographic (CT) scans of the ankle and foot are frequently obtained with in-patients with hind foot and ankle pain to identify fractures, arthritis, and bone lesions. Soft tissue detail is limited, however. Dual-energy CT provides additional information on soft tissue structures, including tendons, with no additional radiation dose to the patient. We present a case of an Achilles tendon tear visualized on DECT, which was subsequently confirmed with magnetic resonance imaging.

Congenital infiltrating lipomatosis of the face and neck.

Congenital infiltrating lipomatosis is a rare clinicopathologic entity characterized by infiltrating lipomatous tumors which, although of benign nature, have a tendency to recur after surgery. This has a predilection for the extremities and the trunk and is seen as overgrowth of soft tissue and bone. It rarely affects the face and neck. We describe two cases of congenital infiltrating lipomatosis of face and neck depicting the bone and soft tissue changes seen on computed tomography, along with a review of the literature on the subject.

Adaptive fuzzy super-twisting sliding mode control with nonlinear active disturbance rejection for electromechanical stabilizer bars to improve vehicle roll stability.

Electromechanical stabilizer bars are commonly equipped in luxury vehicles to enhance rollover stability during aggressive steering maneuvers at high speeds. However, most existing studies simplify actuator and vehicle dynamics, while parametric uncertainties, model nonlinearities, and external disturbances are often insufficiently addressed. This paper proposes a robust adaptive control framework for an active anti-roll system with three main contributions. First, a comprehensive coupled dynamic model is established to explicitly capture the interaction between the electromechanical stabilize

Clinical and computed tomography findings in cats with nasopharyngeal stenosis.

OBJECTIVES: Concurrent anomalies are often found in nasopharyngeal stenosis and choanal atresia; some seem to be of primary nature, whereas others may be coincidental. This study aimed to report the computed tomography features and related comorbidities of these diseases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional retrospective study was performed using case and control groups defined according to the presence of signs of upper airway disease and the presence/absence of nasopharyngeal stenosis, respectively. The inclusion criteria were full-head tomography scans and access to clinical records.

Non-osseous uptake on Tc99m methylene diphosphonate in multiple muscles confirmed on SPECT/computed tomography.

A 55-year-old female presented with complaints of pain in the left hip radiating to the left lower limb since 1 year. Computed tomography (CT) abdomen and pelvis revealed bony destruction of pubic symphysis with associated soft tissue component suspicious of infective or metastatic etiology. Magnetic resonance imaging Lumbo-sacral spine performed later revealed altered bone marrow signal in sacral 1-3 vertebrae. Wholebody bone scan with 25 mCi of Tc-99m methylene diphosphonate (MDP) was performed, which revealed multiple skeletal metastases and extraosseous soft tissue uptake was seen involvin

Validation of new soft tissue software in orthognathic surgery planning.

This study tests computer imaging software (SurgiCase-CMF(®), Materialise) that enables surgeons to perform virtual orthognathic surgical planning using a three dimensional (3D) utility that previews the final shape of hard and soft tissues. It includes a soft tissue simulation module that has created images of soft tissues altered through bimaxillary orthognathic surgery to correct facial deformities. Cephalometric radiographs and CT scans were taken of each patient before and after surgery. The surgical planning system consists of four stages: CT data reconstruction; 3D model generation of f

Soft Tissue Chondroma of the Chin.

Soft tissue chondromas are benign tumors, generally of the hands or feet, very rarely of the head and neck region. Repeated microtrauma may be as an initiating factor. The authors describe a case of a soft tissue chondroma of the chin in a 58-year-old male who had used a continuous positive airway pressure face mask for obstructive sleep apnea for 3 years. The patient presented with a hard mass on his chin for 1 year. Computed tomography imaging showed a heterogeneous enhancing mass, with calcification in the subcutaneous layer. Intraoperatively, the mass was beneath the mentalis muscle and ab

Multiple metastases of soft tissue visualized by technetium-99m-methylene diphosphonate scintigraphy: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Lungs and liver are the most common sites of colorectal cancer metastases after regional lymph nodes, but metastases to unusual sites are reported. Heterotopic bone formation in soft tissues from colorectal cancer is a rare metastatic occurrence. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 29-year-old Caucasian man affected by colon adenocarcinoma with multiple soft tissue metastases visualized by magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography scan and scintigraphic bone scan. We suppose that these findings can be due to the fact that the tracer is concentrated in the ossificat

Non-osseous considerations in diagnostic imaging for pelvic and acetabular trauma.

High-quality imaging is crucial for orthopedic traumatologists in the evaluation and management of pelvic and acetabular fractures. Computed tomography (CT) plays an essential role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with these complex injuries. A thoughtful evaluation of associated soft tissues can reveal additional details about the patient and their injury that may impact treatment. This review aims to highlight soft tissue findings that should be identified when evaluating the initial diagnostic imaging after pelvic and acetabular trauma.

Detection of atherosclerotic coronary artery plaques by multislice spiral computed tomography in patients with acute coronary syndrome: report of 2 cases.

Multislice spiral computed tomography (MSCT) is a new non-invasive imaging technique for detecting coronary artery disease. It allows direct visualization of not only the lumen of the coronary arteries, but also plaque within the artery. Identification of soft plaques is of the utmost importance in the therapeutic decision making for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), including acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina pectoris. MSCT detected coronary artery soft plaques in 2 cases of ACS.

Fuzzing the brain: automated stress testing for the safety of ML-driven neurostimulation.

Objective.Machine learning (ML) models are increasingly used to generate electrical stimulation patterns in neuroprosthetic devices such as visual prostheses. While these models promise precise and personalized control, they also introduce new safety risks when model outputs are delivered directly to neural tissue. We propose a systematic, quantitative approach to detect and characterize unsafe stimulation patterns in ML-driven neurostimulation systems.Approach.We adapt an automated software testing technique known as coverage-guided fuzzing to the domain of neural stimulation. Here, fuzzing p

A unified framework of information measures for complex linear Diophantine fuzzy sets with application to chronic kidney disease.

In many real-world decision-making problems, uncertainty extends beyond conventional fuzzy representations and often involves structural, temporal, and phase-dependent characteristics. Existing fuzzy set models, including their extensions, are generally limited in their ability to simultaneously capture both the magnitude and dynamic behavior of uncertain information. This paper develops a comprehensive framework of information measures for complex linear Diophantine fuzzy sets (CpLDyFS) and illustrates their utility through real-world applications. Although the CpLDyFS model provides an effec

The Rise of Generalist Foundation Models and Quantum Computing in Oncology.

In the field of oncology, Artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning (DL) are an essential component of decision-support. However, traditional narrow-AI models have significant limitations in clinics with respect to narrow, task-specificity (TS), high data requirement and interpretability. Moreover, the absence of common clinical criteria and the lack of doctors in the co-development of explainable AI (XAI) have undermined the implementation causing conflict with general data protection regulation (GDPR), trust and ethical integration requirements. The application of AI/DL tools in clinics

PET/CT Imaging in Soft Tissue Infection and Inflammation-An Update.

Nuclear medicine procedures, including Ga-67 and labeled leucocyte SPECT/CT as well as PET/CT using 18F-FDG and recently Ga-68 tracers, have found extensive applications in the assessment of infectious and inflammatory processes in general and in soft tissues in particular. Recent published data focus on summarizing the available imaging information with the purpose of providing the referring clinicians with optimized evidence based results. Guidelines and/or recommendations of clinical societies have incorporated nuclear medicine tests (using both labeled leucocytes and FDG) in their suggeste

An improved finite element model for craniofacial surgery simulation.

PURPOSE: A novel approach is proposed for simulating the deformation of the facial soft tissues in the craniofacial surgery simulation. METHODS: A nonlinear finite mixed-element model (NFM-EM) based on solid-shell elements and Lagrange principle of virtual work is proposed, which addresses the heterogeneity in geometry and material properties found in the soft tissues of the face. Moreover, after the investigation of the strain-potential models, the biomechanical characteristics of skin, muscles and fat are modeled with the most suitable material properties. In addition, an improved contact a

High 18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose uptake in adult-type rhabdomyoma of the larynx.

Rhabdomyomas are rare benign mesenchymal tumors of the skeletal muscles and uncommon in the head and neck region. Laryngeal rhabdomyomas are much rarer. We present the case of a 32-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital for shortness of breath due to pneumothorax. As otolaryngologists, we were consulted for a soft tissue tumor over the left side of the larynx that was accidentally found on the chest computed tomography (CT). The patient underwent laryngomicrosurgery for tumor biopsy, and histological examination revealed a laryngeal rhabdomyoma. After the operation, magnetic resonance
