In ducks, the sternum is the largest flat bone. Its calcification affects breast muscle development, health, and economic value. Delayed calcification can lead to sternum fractures during feeding, slaughter. Thus, we need to understand the molecular basis of sternum calcification. RATIONALE: Metachronous sternal metastasis of thyroid carcinoma was a rare disease. There was no consensus in the treatment for bone metastasis after the initial thyroid carcinoma surgery.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 53-year-old female patient was hospitalized due to recurrent dull chest pains, with a history of radical right side thyroid carcinoma 4 years ago. On examination, there was an irregular mass on the lower left half of the sternum. Computerized tomography scan showed sternal bone destruction with a soft tissue mass.

A 20-year-old female was referred to our hospital due to deformity and bulging in anterior aspect of chest wall in sternal area. Chest X-ray and CT scan confirmed a large mass with destruction of sternum. Pathologic diagnosis after incisional biopsy was compatible with aneurysmal bone cyst. We resected sternum completely and reconstructed large anterior defect by a cryopreserved sternal allograft. In follow-up of patient there was no unstability of chest wall with good cosmetic result.

We report a rare case of a neonate with congenital giant aortic aneurysm associated to cleft sternum, who underwent surgical repair. The patient died on postoperative Day 5 from cardiac arrest. Autopsy revealed a circumferential subendocardial myocardial infarction and misdiagnosed coronary ostial anomalies. A critical analysis of this unfortunate case may help optimal surgical planning in similar patients in the future.

Because they are frequently malignant, swellings of the chest wall during infancy are alarming lesions. Sternal osteomyelitis is a rare condition that may present with a chest wall mass locating in the parasternal region. A parasternal mass of granulomatous osteomyelitic origin is an extremely rare cause with only few case being reported to date. Herein, the authors report on 2 infants presenting with parasternal masses of sternal granulomatous osteomyelitic origin and discuss the possible etiologic role of the bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine.
