The present study aims to investigate the effect of immunotherapy in a mouse model of allergic rhinitis (AR) and to explore the possible molecular mechanisms of action. ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Qing Chang Suppository (QCS), a traditional Chinese medicine formula, has been shown to effectively alleviate mucosal inflammation in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). PURPOSE: Metastatic cancer patients exhibit systemic dysregulation of immune polarity and are biased toward Th-2 immune responses. This is due, at least in part, to effects of VEGF on antigen presenting cell (APC) function. We therefore compared immune polarity changes in mouse models of cancer with those seen in human patients.

INTRODUCTION: Lupus patients need alternatives to steroids and cytotoxic drugs. We recently found that apigenin, a non-mutagenic dietary flavonoid, can sensitize recurrently activated, normal human T cells to apoptosis by inhibiting nuclear factor-kappa-B (NF-kappaB)-regulated Bcl-xL, cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), and cellular FLICE-like inhibitory protein (c-FLIP) expression.
