PATIENTS AND METHOD: In a longitudinal study the changes of serum or plasma levels of TBARS, alpha-tocopherol, glutathione and selenium were investigated comparing 46 pregnant women with hypertensive syndrome and 18 women with normal pregnancies.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: A significant increase in TBARS serum level was found in women suffering from hypertension. Iso-transplantation of 800 isolated rat pancreatic islets into the portal vein of diabetic rats was performed. Isolated islets were kept in Hanks buffer for 12 hours prior to transplantation. The present study provides the fatty acid, tocopherol, phytosterol, and polyphenol profiles of some Mediterranean oils extracted from pumpkin, melon, and black cumin seed oils and those of dietary argan seed oil. Gas chromatography analysis revealed that oleic and linoleic acids were the most abundant fatty acids.
