The surgical Ultrasonic Aspirator (USA) is a fairly new surgical instrument used for an increasingly wide range of procedures. This paper introduces a new application: debridement of vulvovaginal necrotic ulcers resulting from intracavitary radiation therapy. The ultrasonic aspirator allowed removal of the soft, necrotic tissue while preserving underlying healthy, firm tissue and blood vessels.

A combination of estrogen and levonorgestrel was continuously delivered to 23 adult rabbits for up to 2 years via a Silastic ring device sutured into the vagina. A Schuchardt incision is frequently performed to facilitate access to the parametrium during radical vaginal hysterectomy for cervical cancer. We report an adenocarcinoma recurrence in a Schuchardt incision 12 months after radical vaginal hysterectomy for FIGO stage IB1 cervical cancer. Histology of the primary tumor had shown a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma and poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix 2.6 cm in maximum diameter.
