PURPOSE: To evaluate binocular intermediate visual acuity (IVA), depth of focus, and other visual outcomes achieved with a monofocal aspheric intraocular lens (IOL) using pooled data from 2 randomized, double-masked, controlled trials.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The studies conducted at 32 sites included patients aged ≥22 years with bilateral cataracts, preoperative corneal astigmatism 1.0 D, and lens power 18.0-25.0 D. Six patients had both restriction and paresis of the inferior rectus muscle after blowout fracture of the inferior orbital floor. All six were orthophoric in the primary position but had a severely constricted field of single binocular vision with troublesome diplopia on upgaze and downgaze. Recessing both the inferior rectus muscle and the superior rectus muscle in the injured eye greatly increased the field of single binocular vision. The symptoms improved in all six cases.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific evidence available on the nonsurgical treatment of accommodative and nonstrabismic binocular dysfunctions, identifying the types of treatment used and their efficacy.

It is assumed that dyslexia is due to a brain-organic syndrome, either congenital or acquired in infancy, with specific gnostic deficiencies and faulty controlled binocular vision. The latter is expressed by an intermittent alternating central scotoma which is thought to be responsible for impaired visual perception during reading. The aim of the orthoptic treatment of dyslexia must therefore be to eliminate the alternating central scotoma by stabilizing the binocular vision, and thus to improve reading ability by achieving unimpaired visual perception.

INTRODUCTION: An esotropia ipsilateral to a horizontal pontine gaze palsy has been infrequently reported. We discuss the etiology and review the surgical management of this ocular motility defect.
METHODS: Four patients with radiographically documented dorsal pontine lesions and persistent horizontal gaze palsy with esotropia ipsilateral to the gaze palsy were treated. In each patient, the esotropia was present in attempted primary gaze, producing symptomatic diplopia. An anomalous face turn was required to attain single binocular vision.

A survey is presented of the course of unilateral traumatic cataract in 15 children of 8 years of age and below, admitted consecutively to the Ophthalmological Department of the Odense University Hospital over a period of 9 years.
