Up to this time, malignant diseases not clinically manifest have repeatedly been found as causes of acute venous thromboses. Among our own patients this occurred in 5 cases out of 35 acute venous thromboses in 3 years. Since the indication for venous thrombectomy is greatly restricted by the presence of a malignant disease as the cause of this thrombosis, exclusion of a tumor must be aimed at before indication for thrombectomy is made. Very rare intravascular tumors of the vessel require careful histological investigation of every thrombus removed.

PURPOSE: MK-2206 is an oral, highly selective inhibitor of AKT. The safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics (PK), and anti-tumor activity of MK-2206 was evaluated in Japanese patients with advanced solid tumors.
METHODS: Patients received a single oral dose of MK-2206 according to an every other day (QOD) dosing schedule or a once weekly (QW) dosing schedule in repeating 28-day treatment cycles, with a 7-day rest after only the first cycle. Immediate and long-term results of surgical treatment of cancer of the esophagus and esophageal-gastric passage in 103 patients were analyzed. Ninety-nine extirpations of the esophagus with simultaneous isoperistaltic tubic esophagogastroplasty (95) and coloplasty (4), 4 Luis surgeries were performed. Hospital lethality was 4.9%, rate of postoperative complications - 47.6%. 5-year survival after surgery was 32.4+/-5,8%: in cancer of cervical or upper-thoracic part of the esophagus - 0, middle-thoracic part - 24.6+/-7.2%, lower-thoracic part - 56.5+/-11.9%, esophageal-gastric passage - 35.6+/-1

CT examinations of 25 patients with proved primary or metastatic duodenal neoplasms were retrospectively reviewed to determine if morphologic features seen on CT scans could be used to predict the benign or malignant nature of these neoplasms and to assess the effectiveness of using CT findings to predict tumor resectability. We studied 19 malignant and six benign tumors. Histologic proof was obtained by means of surgery in 20 patients and by endoscopic biopsy in five.
