Subgroups of suicidal ideation and simulated intervention responses among left-behind children with depression risk: an Ising computational network model.

BACKGROUND: Left-behind children (LBC) with depression risk exhibit a higher suicide risk than their peers. To better understand the psychological mechanisms contributing to elevated suicide risk, this study employed a person-centered approach to systematically identify latent subgroups of suicidal ideation, with a particular focus on the roles of positive and negative suicidal ideation, and to investigated their differential responses to simulated interventions. METHODS: From the Psychological Healthcare Guard Children and Adolescents Project of China cohort, 10,852 left-behind children with

Patient centered care for placenta accreta spectrum: Exploring implementation of recommendations based on reported patient and healthcare provider experiences.

OBJECTIVE: Previously, we made recommendations for "family-centered care" for patients with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS). This study explored patients' experience of their care and how often these recommendations are utilized. Furthermore, we explored whether these recommendations are valued by healthcare providers and identify barriers to implementation. METHODS: This study consists of two surveys; one for patients with a history of PAS and a second survey for healthcare providers involved in PAS care. Surveys were circulated over an 8-week period between September and October 2024. Four

Revisiting Afghanistan's Drug Policy: A Policy Analysis of Eradication, Harm Reduction, and Economic Dependencies.

BACKGROUND: Afghanistan's responses to illicit drugs have oscillated between punitive eradication and limited harm-reduction initiatives. Two decades of heavy external spending, entrenched conflict, and an economy intertwined with opium have blunted policy effectiveness. METHODS: Guided by Walt and Gilson's policy-triangle, we undertook a document-based review (2001-2024). Twenty-seven national laws, strategies, and analytical reports were retrieved from government and multilateral repositories. Data were coded thematically using Braun-and-Clarke's six-phase approach to map policy content, ac

Dressing-induced allergic contact dermatitis in total joint arthroplasty.

PURPOSE: To investigate the incidence and risk factors for dressing-induced allergic contact dermatitis (DIACD) following total hip and knee arthroplasty (THA and TKA, respectively) across different dressings and sealants. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of patients who underwent primary, elective THA or TKA between 2019 and 2024 with ≥ 90 days of follow-up. Incidences of DIACD were identified by reviewing medical records for "allergy" diagnoses and use of antihistamines or corticosteroids within 30 days postoperatively. Patient characteristics, prior exposure, treatment, dressi

Living with Pompe disease: results from a qualitative interview study with children and adolescents and their caregivers.

BACKGROUND: Children and adolescents with Pompe disease (PD) face chronic and progressive myopathy requiring time-intensive enzyme replacement therapy (ERT). Anger regulation in patients with functional neurological disorder: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Functional neurological disorder (FND) has been associated with predisposing psychological factors, including dysregulation of anger-related processes. This paper provides a systematic review of the literature on anger regulation in FND. We evaluated anger-related research on patient self-report, observational, and laboratory based measures in FND. The review also addresses adverse childhood experiences and their relation with anger regulation, and the effects of therapies targeting anger regulation in FND. METHODS: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PsycINFO were searched for both quantitative

Relationship Between Valence and Arousal for Subjective Experience in a Real-life Setting for Supportive Housing Residents: Results From an Ecological Momentary Assessment Study.

BACKGROUND: The circumplex model of affect posits that valence and arousal are the principal dimensions of affect. The center of the 2D space represents a neutral state of valence and a medium state of arousal. The role of valence and arousal in human emotion has been studied extensively. However, no consistent relationship between valence and arousal has been established. Most of the prior studies investigating the relationship have been conducted in relatively controlled laboratory settings. OBJECTIVE: Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) of affect from participants residing in permanent s

Pain Relief With Peripheral Nerve Stimulation of Superficial Cervical Plexus: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: Neuropathic head and facial pain are relatively common and difficult to treat pain syndromes encountered in pain clinics throughout the world. Atypical syndromes with overlapping nerve distributions can be particularly frustrating for patients and providers. In recent years, as providers search for alternatives to medications, advances in neuromodulation technology, including spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS), have shown promise in treating neuropathic pain confined to specific nerve distributions, such as the greater and lesser occipital nerves. Howeve

Presence of Persistent Parent Reported Emotional and Behavioral-Related Concussion Symptoms Is Associated with Lower Health-Related Quality of Life in Adolescent Athletes.

Persistent concussion symptoms in adolescents are associated with lower health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The association between persistent emotional and behavioral-related concussion symptoms (EBS) and HRQOL is unknown, however. This study was a prospective cohort of adolescent athletes presenting to a concussion clinic within three days post-concussion and completing a one-month follow-up. The independent variable in these analyses was parent reported EBS symptom presence grouped as: (1) no EBS; (2) EBS present at pre-concussion levels; and (3) EBS worse than pre-concussion. The EBS i

Audiologist-Supported Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Tinnitus in the United States: A Pilot Trial.

Background Patients often report that living with a condition such as tinnitus can be debilitating, worrying, and frustrating. Efficient ways to foster management strategies for individuals with tinnitus and promoting tinnitus self-efficacy are needed. Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) for tinnitus shows promise as an evidence-based intervention in Europe, but is not available in the United States. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the feasibility of an ICBT intervention for tinnitus in the United States. Method This study reports the Phase 1 trial intended to suppor

Identifying barriers and facilitators to recognition and response to patient clinical deterioration by clinicians using a behaviour change approach: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Failure of clinicians to recognise and respond to patient clinical deterioration is associated with increased hospital mortality. Emergency response teams are implemented throughout hospitals to support direct-care clinicians in managing patient deterioration, but patient clinical deterioration is often not identified or acted upon by clinicians in ward settings. To date, no studies have used an integrative theoretical framework in multiple sites to examine why clinicians' delay identification and action on patients' clinical deterioration. AIM: To identify barriers and facilitato
