Pulmonary thromboendarterectomy is an accepted operative procedure for treatment of pulmonary hypertension due to chronic embolism. Despite its proven value this procedure has been established at very few centers worldwide. In this paper we report our actual operative concept and operative results. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy has already been described by various authors. The present series consists of 25 consecutive, nonselected cases operated on in the Department of Surgery, University of Pisa. All operations were carried out using a minimal access technique, and there were no conversions to open surgery. The mean operative time was 109 min. This study evaluated patient characteristics that affect the complexity and difficulties of performing surgery to resect carotid body tumors (CBTs). We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 20 patients with 21 CBTs who were enrolled in the study. The median patient age was 46 years and the mean tumor diameter was 37.6 mm.
