The linear dependence of the intraabdominal pressure and the volume of retroperitoneal bleeding was revealed in 34 patients with the aortic aneurism rupture. In patients with the blunt abdominal trauma, treated conservatively and laparotomized (each group consisted of 26 patients), the intraabdominal pressure is higher in the operated group during the first day after the operation. The main factors of the intraabdominal hypertension seem to be shock and massive infusion and transfusion therapy.

Dieulafoy's lesion is an uncommon cause of brisk arterial bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract that can have severe consequences such as rebleeding and hypotension if left untreated. The authors report the case of an elderly woman with several comorbidities who presented with duodenal bleeding caused by a Dieulafoy lesion. The lesion was treated endoscopically and was subsequently complicated by the formation of a retroperitoneal hematoma. Given the surgical risk, the authors opted to retreat endoscopically, which proved to be a reasonable approach in this particular patient.

We discuss the case of a young adolescent boy with ulcerative colitis who developed pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema in the neck and surrounding cervical soft tissues secondary to a probable retroperitoneal perforation of the colon. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of this complication in the pediatric literature. Our experience provides insight into this unusual complication, how it may present, and its clinical significance in young patients with ulcerative colitis. The literature on this complication is also discussed.
