This numerical study assesses the influence of an oversized humeral hemiprosthesis with a larger medial offset on the mechanics of the shoulder with cuff tear arthropathy (CTA). Shoulder elevation in the scapular plane is performed, and a Seebauer Type IIa CTA is simulated: a massive rotator cuff tear, a proximal and static migration of the humeral head, and two contacts with friction (glenohumeral and acromiohumeral). The CTA model without a prosthesis (friction coefficient 0.3) is evaluated first as a reference model. Then, three humeral head prosthetic geometries (friction coefficient 0.15)

Rotator cuff injuries are a leading cause of shoulder disability, directly impacting joint mobility and overall quality of life. Effective recovery in these patients depends not only on surgical intervention, when necessary, but also on accurate and continuous monitoring of joint movements during rehabilitation, especially across multiple anatomical planes. Traditional tools, such as clinical assessments or motion capture systems, are often subjective or expensive and impractical for routine use. In this context, wearable devices are emerging as a viable alternative, offering the ability to co…

Subacromial shoulder pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal conditions affecting overhead athletes, particularly those engaged in high-intensity training modalities such as CrossFit. The prevalence of shoulder injuries in this population continues to rise due to increased participation, repetitive overhead movements, and biomechanical stress on the rotator cuff and scapular stabilisers. While various rehabilitation approaches exist, no consensus exists on the most effective exercise intervention for improving shoulder function and pain outcomes in athletes with subacromial shoulder pai

Impairments in muscle activation have been linked to increased risk of developing shoulder pathologies such as subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) and associated rotator cuff injuries. Individuals with SIS have demonstrated increased upper trapezius (UT) muscle activation and reduced serratus anterior (SA) and lower trapezius (LT) muscle activation, which can be collectively represented as ratios (UT/SA and UT/LT). Targeted exercise is an important component of shoulder rehabilitation programs to re-establish optimal muscle activation and ratios. Electromyography (EMG) biofeedback during ex…

Nitric oxide (NO) has a variety of physiological roles, including acting as a key mediator in various phases of tendon healing, but its importance as a modulator of gene expression during tendon healing has not been well studied. The current study used microarray analysis to elucidate global gene expression after transfection with inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in tenocytes isolated from the injured rotator cuff tendons of human patients. We show that the expression of a wide range of genes is affected by NO, with many activated genes having known roles in healing. Of particular signif

Needle arthroscopy (using a 1- to 1.9-mm diameter arthroscope) is not new, and new interest is a result of the expense and inconvenience of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), including time out of work, prolonged diagnostic dilemmas, and finite advanced imaging resources. Improvements in the image quality with the modern needle arthroscope have made it a viable option for use as a diagnostic tool in the operative setting, and eventually, if surgeons are able to create strict criteria for proper diagnostic use of the needle arthroscope, it may become an excellent tool for in-office use despite f

Nerve injury is a common complication during anterior shoulder surgery. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the musculocutaneous nerve (MN) anatomically and to clarify the relationship of the MN to the glenoid labrum and coracoid process in different arm positions. The study was carried out on 40 shoulders of 20 adult cadavers fixed in 10% formaldehyde. The minimum distance of the MN at the entrance point of the nerve into the coracobrachialis to the anteromedial aspect of the coracoid tip and the distance between the MN and the top, middle, and inferior points of the glenoid labrum were

Tendon disorders are among the most common musculoskeletal conditions, accounting for 30% to 50% of all sports-related injuries. Injured tendons heal slowly and often fail to regain their original structural integrity and mechanical strength, creating significant challenges for physicians. Recently, investigations have reported that polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) plays a key role in promoting tendon healing. For example, preclinical studies indicate that PDRN can enhance tendon repair by inhibiting inflammation and cell apoptosis while promoting collagen production. In clinical studies, the ef

Shoulder morbidity is a well-documented sequela of breast cancer treatment, which includes various manifestations such as pain, reduced range of motion, and lymphedema, among others. The multifactorial nature of such morbidities has long been appreciated, and research on reliable risk predictors of development thereof still continues. Previous studies have demonstrated the potential of different types of physical therapy to treat such shoulder problems, and the integration of such interventions into routine care for breast cancer survivors is a requirement in most high-income countries. The etiology of musculoskeletal disorders is complex, with physical and psychosocial working conditions playing an important role. This study aimed to determine the relationship between psychosocial work conditions, such as psychological job demands, decision latitude, social support and job insecurity and musculoskeletal complains (MSCs) and (repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) in a 1-year prospective study. The job content questionnaire, the Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire and provocation tests were used to study 725 employees aged 20-70 years. Pain in the lower back (58 % of subjects), n

The shoulder is the most unstable joint in the human body and is therefore susceptible not only to acute dislocations but also to minimal states of subluxation related to overuse. The latter condition is known as microinstability and is translated clinically into internal impingement syndromes. Both in dislocations due to acute traumatism and in microinstability, a series of injuries to the glenoid lip, glenohumeral capsule, the articular cartilage, the head of the humerus, the tendons of the rotator cuff, the long tendon of the biceps, the glenohumeral ligaments, and coracohumeral ligament ca

Sustained oxidative stress and inflammation have been reported as the major factors responsible for the failure of tendon healing during rotator cuff tears (RCTs) and rotator cuff disease (RCD). Although, their therapeutic management remains still challenging. Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are involved in many pathological conditions, and the overexpression of both CA9 and 12 in inflamed joints has been recently reported. Consequently, a selective CA9/12 inhibition could be a feasible strategy for improving tendon recovery after injury. In addition, since carbon monoxide (CO) has been proven to ha
