Implant replacement of congenitally missing lateral incisor: a case report.

The therapeutic goal of reconstruction dentistry is to provide our patients with a dentition that is in harmony with the patient's musculature and temporomandibular joints. Malocclusion can contribute to both muscular and joint dysfunction. This case report demonstrates the reconstruction of a malocclusion caused by a congenitally missing lateral incisor utilizing a combination of orthodontic treatment and a dental implant to replace the congenitally missing tooth.

Transverse and torque dental changes after passive self-ligating fixed therapy: A two-year follow-up study.

INTRODUCTION: Self-ligating appliances are purposed to expand the arches, but evidence on stability of the result is lacking. We measured the width of maxillary and mandibular arches and torque changes after treatment with the use of passive self-ligating appliances and assessed stability at the 2-year follow-up. METHODS: Maxillary and mandibular 3-dimensional (3D) models from 32 subjects (mean initial age 14.9 ± 0.9 years), consecutively treated with the use of self-ligating appliances, were obtained before, immediately after, and 2 years after treatment. Dental arches were examined with the

Three-year clinical evaluation of cuspal coverage with combined composite-amalgam in endodontically-treated maxillary premolars.

This clinical study evaluated the clinical performance of cuspal coverage with combined composite-amalgam restorations in endodontically-treated maxillary premolars over a three-year period. Thirty-six maxillary premolars, each with a Class II cavity in 36 patients ranging in age between 28 and 52 years, were selected after endodontic treatment. After reduction of the buccal and palatal cusps, internal coverage and veneering of the reduced buccal cusp was performed with composite. The remaining cavity and reduced palatal cusp were restored with high-copper amalgam. The restorations were evalua

Conceptual approach to complex rehabilitation of a patient with bulimia nervosa: a case report.

This case report presents the clinical and technical protocol involved in treating a 32-year-old patient whose teeth and dental appearance were severely compromised as a result of bulimia nervosa. Patients suffering from this disorder have a high incidence of erosion of dentin and enamel, which over time may cause loss of vertical dimension. This has an impact on the patient's overall appearance, with effects such as sunken lips, lack of support, and creases at the corners of the mouth.

One-year survival and soft tissue aesthetics of immediately placed implants with immediate provisional crowns for maxillary incisors in patients with or without chronic peri-apical periodontitis: a retrospective study.

Tooth loss in the aesthetic zone, particularly of a maxillary incisor, can substantially affect function, appearance, and patient well-being. Immediate implant placement with provisionalization is widely used, but is traditionally limited to non-inflamed extraction sites. This retrospective cohort study compared the 1-year outcomes of immediately placed dental implants replacing a maxillary incisor in patients with and without chronic peri-apical periodontitis. Clinical records of patients treated between January 2019 and December 2022 were reviewed. Outcome variables included implant survival

Dental management of hemophiliac child under general anesthesia.

Hemophilia is the most common inherited bleeding disorder. Hemophilic patients should be cosidered as special patients. There is no contraindication to general dental treatment for hemophiliacs, as they generally do not involve bleeding. But caution must be used with any surgical procedures that involve the local and general anesthesia. Such patients should always be managed in the setting of specialized units with appropriate clinical expertise and laboratory support. Recent advances in the management of hemophilia have enabled many hemophiliac patients to receive surgical dental procedures i

Osteotome-Induced Blood Clot and Subsequent Bone Formation with the Use of Collagen Sponge for Integration of Single Dental Implants into the Atrophied Posterior Maxilla: A Retrospective Follow-Up of 36 Implants after 5 to 13 years.

BACKGROUND: Atrophy of the posterior maxilla as a consequence of tooth loss and sinus pneumatization is a frequent condition encountered in the clinical practice. Prosthetic rehabilitation with implants in these patients often requires some kind of bone regeneration procedure to increase the bone volume. AIM: The aim of the present retrospective study is to analyze the survival and success rates of a series of implants placed in the atrophic posterior maxilla with a transcrestal osteotome procedure, without placing a bone grafting material. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 2006 to 2014, 36 dental

Dentigerous Cyst and Glandular Odontogenic Cyst: A Rare Combination of Coexisting Pathologies.

A dentigerous cyst (DC) is the most common developmental cystic lesion of the jaws. Histologically, these cysts derive from the odontogenic epithelium that includes the reduced enamel epithelium, epithelial cell rests of Serres, and epithelial cell rests of Malassez. Radiographically, DCs are usually presented as well-defined radiolucencies associated with the crown of an unerupted tooth at the level of the cementoenamel junction (CEJ). Glandular odontogenic cysts (GOCs) are classified under the same category as DCs. Radiographically, glandular odontogenic cysts (GOCs) may appear as unilocular

Digital analysis of age-related dentoalveolar changes: a 50-year longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: With the growing demand for orthodontic treatment among adults, a clear understanding of the age-related dentoalveolar changes has become increasingly important for accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and long-term retention strategies. This study aims to characterize dentoalveolar changes in individuals with normal occlusion from early adolescence (13 years) to late adulthood (62 years) across four time points, using digitally derived measurements and strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. METHODOLOGY: Thirty orthodontically untreated subjects (11 males, 19 females) recruit

The influence of peri-implant mucosal phenotype on marginal bone changes in single-tooth implants with direct restorations: a 36-month clinical trial.

OBJECTIVES: This clinical trial aimed to evaluate changes at the marginal bone level by analysing the influence of the peri‑implant mucosal phenotype on implants restored with direct screw-retained prostheses after a 3-year follow-up. METHODS: Fifty-one patients received 56 implants in the posterior part of the maxilla or mandible. The implants were placed equicrestally, 1 mm subcrestally (SC), or > 1 mm SC, depending on the initial supracrestal tissue height (STH). After 3 months of non-submerged healing, screw-retained single-unit crowns were placed in direct connection with the implant sho

Esthetics and smile characteristics from the layperson's perspective: a computer-based survey study.

BACKGROUND: The paradigm shift from occlusion to esthetics places more emphasis on the subtle relationships among the teeth and the interplay with the soft tissues. The authors of this study quantified the ideal and maximum acceptable deviations for smile characteristics. METHODS: The authors created a survey by using a digital image editing software package, which enabled raters to manipulate intraoral photographs featured in the survey. They altered smile characteristics in photos of a sex-neutral face showing nasal tip to mentolabial fold. The authors administered an electronic survey in B

Delayed implants in the anterior maxilla with the IMZ-implant system.

One hundred and seventy-three IMZ two-stage implants have been clinically and radiologically evaluated for a 5 year period. The implants were placed in the anterior region of the maxillae of 81 patients to replace lost incisors, cuspids and bicuspids. The implants were placed 3 months or later after loss of natural anterior teeth when the resorption was already in an advanced stage. The implants used in this study consisted of titanium coated with hydroxylapatite. The prosthetic restorations placed on the implants consisted of fixed or removable partial dentures and single crowns. The cumulati
