Inferior alveolar nerve transposition in conjunction with implant placement.

PURPOSE: The aim of this prospective study was to determine the incidence of neurosensory disturbance and the cumulative survival and success rates of ITI solid-screw implants placed in conjunction with an inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) transposition technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 46 ITI implants were placed in 15 patients following transposition of the IAN. In 4 patients nerve transpositioning was performed bilaterally, so a total of 19 IAN mobilization surgeries were performed. Neurosensory dysfunction was objectively evaluated by using light touch (LT), pain (PT), and 2-point discriminat

A prospective, quantitative study on the clinical outcome of lingual nerve repair.

We previously showed in laboratory studies that the most effective method for repair of damaged lingual nerves was by excision of the neuroma, mobilization of the stumps, and direct reapposition with epineurial sutures. We have now undertaken a prospective study in a series of 53 patients treated by this method and have evaluated the outcome by quantifying and comparing the results of tests of sensation before and after operation. The outcome in individual patients was variable. However, pooled data from all patients showed a highly significant improvement in sensation at the final assessment

Psychological violence, subjective well-being, and burnout among healthcare workers: The roles of sleep disturbance and perceived occupational infection risk.

BACKGROUND: Psychological violence (PCV), which includes verbal abuse, bullying, intimidation, sexual harassment and ethnic discrimination, is the most frequently reported form of workplace violence in health care and a well-documented correlate of burnout. Healthcare workers (HCWs) in infectious disease services face this psychosocial hazard alongside two further, structurally persistent conditions: impaired recovery through disturbed sleep, and the appraised risk of acquiring infection at work. How these demands combine with workers' personal psychological resources is not well understood.

Machine learning-based source-level EEG functional network biomarkers of antidepressant treatment response in major depressive disorder.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is highly prevalent, yet antidepressant selection remains largely trial and error because of limited predictive biomarkers. Resting-state electroencephalography (EEG) combined with graph theory-based functional networks offers a noninvasive approach to probing brain dysconnectivity. This study aimed to delineate source-level functional network differences between antidepressant responders and non-responders, and to evaluate whether machine learning models using nodal network features can discriminate treatment outcome. Resting-state EEG was recorded at baseline

Sleep quality and its associated factors among community-dwelling patients with severe mental disorders in Minhang District, Shanghai: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbances are common in severe mental disorders (SMD), but community-based epidemiological data in China are scarce. This study examined the prevalence and correlates of poor sleep quality and tested the indirect pathways of psychological distress in the association between social support and sleep. METHODS: Using 2022 baseline data from a community survey in Shanghai, we included 3797 SMD patients (mean age 54.9 years; 51.6% female; 64.1% schizophrenia-spectrum). Sleep quality was assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI; poor defined as >5), social support

PERMA-Profiler as a multidimensional measure of well-being in a French context.

Subjective well-being is a central component of physical and mental health and is increasingly recognized as a key indicator of quality of life. Despite the widespread use of the PERMA framework, no validated French version of the PERMA-Profiler is currently available. The aim of this study was to translate and culturally adapt the PERMA-Profiler into French and to examine its psychometric properties in a large sample of adults. A total of 612 French-speaking adults completed the French version of the PERMA-Profiler as well as measures of flourishing, anxiety and depression. The sample was ran

"As for stigma? … I don't think I'd be going to my next-door neighbor saying 'I'm going for lung cancer screening'": a qualitative study of the potential impacts of stigma during lung cancer screening in Australia.

INTRODUCTION: Lung cancer stigma is widespread, with consequences for patients psychologically and clinically. It can also be a barrier to lung cancer screening (LCS), though current evidence is limited. With LCS programs in development globally, this qualitative study explored the views, expectations, and potential impacts of stigma with people eligible for LCS before commencement of the Australian National LCS Program. METHODS: Participants met eligibility criteria for the Australian National LCS Program (asymptomatic of lung cancer; aged 50-70 years; currently smoking tobacco cigarettes or

Psychometric Properties of the Dutch Short Form of the Five-Factor Narcissism Inventory.

The Five-Factor Narcissism Inventory-Short Form (FFNI-SF) is specifically developed to assess narcissism at the two- (grandiose and vulnerable narcissism) and three-factor level (agentic extraversion, self-centered antagonism, and narcissistic neuroticism). To date, however, no psychometrically validated Dutch language version has been available in research or clinical settings. This study developed and validated the Dutch version of the 60-item FFNI-SF (FFNI-SF-NL), examining its reliability, factor structure, and convergent and discriminant validity following a preregistered analysis plan. Comparison of interoceptive abilities across the respiratory, esophageal and cardiac domain: A pilot study.

Interoception, the processing and perception of internal bodily signals, regulates a wide range of psychological and somatic functions, including emotional experiences, bodily symptom perception, self-awareness and decision-making, highlighting its important role in the maintenance of bodily and mental homeostasis. Traditionally, interoception has been studied within single organ domains, with findings often generalized to interoception as a whole. However, evidence suggests interoceptive abilities may be domain-specific rather than a general ability. This pilot study investigated how perceptu

Comparison between pupillometry and numeric pain rating scale for pain assessments in communicating adult patients in the emergency department.

OBJECTIVE: The adequate assessment of pain in the emergency department (ED) can be challenging. Two dynamic pupillary measures used in conscious subjects after a surgical procedure were previously shown to correlate to the magnitude of ongoing pain. The objective of this study was to test the ability of dynamic measures derived from pupillometry to evaluate pain intensity in conscious adult patients admitted to the ED. METHODS: This prospective, interventional, single-centre study was performed between August 2021 and January 2022 (NCT05019898). An assessment of self-reported pain intensity w

Adaptive depends on context: An examination of the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 in an eating disorder sample.

Though there is a robust literature base linking intuitive eating (IE) to better psychological health and reduced eating pathology, little is known about the psychometric properties of IES-2 measurement or how IE relates to eating psychopathology within eating disorder clinical samples. Importantly, some seemingly adaptive eating behaviors in non-clinical populations could conceivably result from disordered eating within clinical eating disorder populations (e.g., not eating when not hungry because of distorted hunger-fullness cues, furthering restriction). This study examined the factor struc

Prevalence of Mental Disorders in Patients With Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension.

OBJECTIVE: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a chronic and progressive pulmonary vascular disease resulting in symptoms such as shortness of breath and fatigue and leading to death from right heart failure if not adequately treated. Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a subgroup of PH characterized by obstruction or occlusion of pulmonary arteries by post-embolic fibrotic material. To date, few studies examined symptoms of depression and anxiety in patients with CTEPH, showing depression levels as high as 37.5%. However, none of the former studies used structured expert inter

The Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia in Down Syndrome Scale (BPSD-DS II): Optimization and Further Validation.

BACKGROUND: People with Down syndrome (DS) are at high risk to develop Alzheimer's disease dementia (AD). Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are common and may also serve as early signals for dementia. However, comprehensive evaluation scales for BPSD, adapted to DS, are lacking. Therefore, we previously developed the BPSD-DS scale to identify behavioral changes between the last six months and pre-existing life-long characteristic behavior. OBJECTIVE: To optimize and further study the scale (discriminative ability and reliability) in a large representative DS study popul

Clusters of functional domains to identify older persons at risk of disability.

AIM: To date, there is no consensus on which set of variables should be used to identify older persons at risk of disability in activities of daily living. The present study aimed to: (i) evaluate how different deficits cluster in a population of community-dwelling older persons; and (ii) investigate whether the discriminative capacity of physical performance measures towards the development of disability might be improved by adding psychological, social and environmental indicators. METHODS: Data are from 709 non-disabled older persons participating in the "Invecchiare in Chianti" study. We

Treadmill Slope Modulates Inflammation, Fiber Type Composition, Androgen, and Glucocorticoid Receptors in the Skeletal Muscle of Overtrained Mice.

Overtraining (OT) may be defined as an imbalance between excessive training and adequate recovery period. Recently, a downhill running-based overtraining (OTR/down) protocol induced the nonfunctional overreaching state, which is defined as a performance decrement that may be associated with psychological and hormonal disruptions and promoted intramuscular and systemic inflammation. To discriminate the eccentric contraction effects on interleukin 1beta (IL-1β), IL-6, IL-10, IL-15, and SOCS-3, we compared the release of these cytokines in OTR/down with other two OT protocols with the same extern
