Effect of transcranial direct current stimulation on the psychomotor, cognitive, and motor performances of power athletes.

In sports science, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has many unknown effects on neuromuscular, psychomotor and cognitive aspects. Particularly, its impact on power performances remains poorly investigated. Eighteen healthy young males, all trained in a jumping sport (parkour) performed three experimental sessions: anodal tDCS applied either on the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC, cathode in supraorbital area) or on the primary motor cortex (M1, cathode on contralateral shoulder), and a placebo condition (SHAM), each applied for 20 min at 2 mA. Pre and post, maximal ver

Obesity Increases the Severity and Mortality of Influenza and COVID-19: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Since December 2019, COVID-19 has aroused global attention. Studies show the link between obesity and severe outcome of influenza and COVID-19. Thus, we aimed to compare the impacts of obesity on the severity and mortality of influenza and COVID-19 by performing a meta-analysis. A systematic search was performed in MEDLINE, EMASE, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Web of Science from January 2009 to July 2020. The protocol was registered onto PROSPERO (CRD42020201461). After selection, 46 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were a

Tutoring math platform accessible for visually impaired people.

BACKGROUND: There are many problems with teaching and assessing impaired students in higher education, especially in technical science, where the knowledge is represented mostly by structural information like: math formulae, charts, graphs, etc. Developing e-learning platform for distance education solves this problem only partially due to the lack of accessibility for the blind. METHOD: The proposed method is based on the decomposition of the typical mathematical exercise into a sequence of elementary sub-exercises. This allows for interactive resolving of math exercises and assessment of th

The development of a framework to integrate evidence into a national injury prevention strategy.

BACKGROUND: Injury is the leading cause of death from birth to age 34 in Canada (Statistics Canada, 2008). In 2013, a national injury prevention organization in Canada initiated a research-practitioner collaboration to establish a framework for incorporating evidence in the organization's decision-making. In this study, we outline the development process and provide an overview of the framework. METHODS: The process of development of the evidence-synthesis framework included consultation with national and international injury prevention experts, a review of the research literature to identify

Interventions to support the resilience and mental health of frontline health and social care professionals during and after a disease outbreak, epidemic or pandemic: a mixed methods systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Evidence from disease epidemics shows that healthcare workers are at risk of developing short- and long-term mental health problems. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned about the potential negative impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the mental well-being of health and social care professionals. Symptoms of mental health problems commonly include depression, anxiety, stress, and additional cognitive and social problems; these can impact on function in the workplace. The mental health and resilience (ability to cope with the negative effects of stress) of frontline health an

Speech-touch integration for affective human-robot interaction: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence is increasingly capable of expressing empathy through language, yet the integration of physical touch-an important cue for social connection-remains fragmented. Although robots utilise language or touch individually, few systems coordinate both modalities, potentially limiting their capacity for affective human-robot interaction (HRI). This scoping review maps social robots that combine spoken language and tactile interaction (e.g., hugging, stroking, warmth, vibration), examines how these modalities are coordinated in existing systems, and synthesises repor

Locally adapted guidelines: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) often fail to be fully implemented in practice. One barrier to CPG implementation is inconsistency between recommendations and existing practice patterns. This can include patients, personnel, structure, availability of resources, cultural and ethical values. To account for this, it is feasible to tailor national CPGs to a regional or local context (e.g. hospital). Local ownership can be beneficial and help to implement the guideline without affecting guideline validity. This process is also known as guideline adaptation. We aimed to identify ran

AI Agents in Clinical Medicine: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: AI agents built on large language models (LLMs) can plan tasks, use external tools, and coordinate with other agents. Unlike standard LLMs, agents can execute multi-step processes, access real-time clinical information, and integrate multiple data sources. There has been interest in using such agents for clinical and administrative tasks, however, there is limited knowledge on their performance and whether multi-agent systems function better than a single agent for healthcare tasks. PURPOSE: To evaluate the performance of AI agents in healthcare, compare AI agent systems vs. stand
