BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: To compare the use of cyclocryotherapy and diode laser cyclophotocoagulation for the treatment of uncontrolled intraocular pressure.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Seventy consecutive patients (70 eyes) treated for high, unresponsive intraocular pressure during a 4-year period with cyclocryotherapy (n = 38) or diode laser cyclophotocoagulation (n = 32) with a follow-up period of at least 3 months (mean follow-up = 15.7 months) were compared for intraocular pressure, visual acuity, and complication rate.
RESULTS: Mean intraocular pressure was reduced from 40.9 +/- 11.9 to 20.

The management of epistaxis in patients with hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (Osler-Weber-Rendu) is often a perplexing problem. In the past, cautery, cryosurgery, and septodermoplasty have all been used with varying degrees of success. The Candela flashlamp-pulsed dye laser was developed for management of vascular lesions (port-wine stains and telangiectasia). The results of our prospective trial utilizing this laser in the treatment of intranasal telangiectasia in patients with hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia are presented.

PURPOSE: To identify the clinical features in eyes with intraretinal foreign bodies (IRFBs) and evaluate the results of surgical management in these cases.
METHODS: The records of 75 patients (76 eyes) with IRFBs were retrospectively reviewed. All eyes underwent vitrectomy. The IRFBs were removed with intraocular forceps in 45 eyes (59.2%) and by magnetic extraction in 31 eyes (40.8%), either through pars plana sclerotomy or through the sclera over the IRFB after precise localization. The efficacy of argon and diode laser photocoagulation of the avascular peripheral retina for threshold retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) was compared in a prospective trial. The study group included 9 premature infants (17 eyes). In each infant, one eye was treated with the diode laser indirect ophthalmoscope (LIO), and the fellow eye was treated with the argon LIO.
