BACKGROUND: The study reports our 8-year experience in the surgical treatment of restrictive myopathy resulting from dysthyroid ophthalmopathy. We tried to determine the factors that contributed to favorable surgical outcomes.
METHODS: The charts of patients who had surgical treatment for strabismus related to dysthyroid ophthalmopathy at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital between January 1995 and December 2002 (n=25) were retrospectively reviewed, and factors that possibly influenced the outcome were statistically analyzed for significance.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal Duhamel's pull-through was compared with 2 other approaches to Hirschsprung's disease (HD) diagnosed in the neonatal period.
METHODS: Fifty HD patients, undergoing Duhamel's pull-through, were divided into 3 groups. The practice of minimally invasive valve surgery remains controversial. From May 1998, we began minimal invasive aortic valve replacement through the limited upper sternotomy. This technique is simple and provides and easy approach for the aortic valve. From May 1998 to Jan 2000, we performed 15 cases of aortic valve replacement with the limited upper sternotomy approach. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to record the incidence and management of periprosthetic humeral fractures (PHF) using reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) in our institution.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective study of 203 RTSA implanted in 200 patients between 2003 and 2014. The mean follow-up was 78.82 months (range, 12-141). Mean age of the study cohort was 75.87 years (range, 44-88). There were only 25 male patients (12.5 %). A series of 668 operated intracranial meningiomas is retrospectively analysed with respect to operative radicality and related factors. A total and subtotal resection is reported in 75.8% of cases. Major aspects are localisation, clinical state at the time of surgery and topographical relation of tumours to major neural and vascular structures. A basic reason for incomplete operative resection of tumours we assume to be delayed diagnosis and consecutive extensive tumour growth into relevant brain areas.

For patients with perforated diverticulitis, many reports have focused on laparoscopic surgery without primary anastomosis. Osteochondral lesions of the talus are chondral lesions affecting the subchondral bone mostly due to acute ankle trauma, including either sprains or fractures. After failure of conservative treatment, operative treatment is necessary, with different surgical techniques described in the literature. We describe a single-step osteochondral autograft transfer to access the medial talar dome lesion that avoids the need for a medial malleolar osteotomy and therefore eliminates morbidity while reducing operative time.

Assessment of serum gastrin, digestion and absorption of protein, fat 10-15 days after operative treatment in 119 patients with gastric ulcer revealed that independent of the observation time the gastrin level remains low in patients following gastric resection and high following selective proximal vagotomy. The processes of digestion and absorption of proteins, fats are inhibited in the early period after operative intervention with a tendency towards normalization in the remote period.

BACKGROUND: We sought to investigate the association between nighttime (NT) operating and the occurrence of intraoperative adverse events (iAEs).
STUDY DESIGN: Our 2007-2012 institutional ACS-NSQIP and administrative databases were screened for iAEs using the ICD-9-CM-based Patient Safety Indicator "accidental puncture or laceration". Procedures were defined as AM (06.00-14.00 h), PM (14.00-22.00 h), or NT (22.00-06.00 h). Univariate and multivariable analyses were performed to investigate the association between PM and NT operating and the occurrence of iAEs.
