Parents' Attitudes towards Vaccinations Regarding the Ukrainian Migration to Poland in 2022.

Background: Russia's aggression against Ukraine in early 2022 resulted in a large migration of refugees to many countries, including Poland. Vaccination coverage for some infectious diseases in Ukraine is lower than in Poland; consequently, the incidence of infectious diseases-including measles, poliomyelitis, tuberculosis, and COVID-19-is higher. We aimed to investigate whether the migration of Ukrainians had influenced decisions of Polish parents on having their children vaccinated and to examine their attitudes towards vaccinations. Material and methods: A cross-sectional online survey stud…

The impact of a long asylum procedure on quality of life, disability and physical health in Iraqi asylum seekers in the Netherlands.

BACKGROUND: Refugees in western countries often face long juridical procedures before their requests for a resident permit is granted. The, still scanty, literature shows high prevalence rates of psychopathology among asylum seekers, but there has been little interest for other impaired dimensions of health. The present study is part of a community-based mental health survey among Iraqi asylum seekers in the Netherlands, conducted between November 2000 and September 2001, on the risks of a long asylum procedure. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to explore quality of life (QoL), d…

Prevalence and associated factors of common mental disorders among internally displaced people by armed conflict in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique: a cross-sectional community-based study.

BACKGROUND: Humanitarian emergencies are a major global health challenge with the potential to have a profound impact on people's mental and psychological health. Displacement is a traumatic event that disrupts families and affects physical and psychological health at all ages. A person may endure or witness a traumatic incident, such as being exposed to war, and, as a result, develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). There is a lack of information about post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety disorder in low and middle-income countries in humanitarian emergency contexts s

Gender disparity and post-traumatic stress disorder and elevated psychological distress in humanitarian migrants resettled in Australia: the moderating role of socioeconomic factors.

AIMS: Humanitarian migrants are at increased risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and elevated psychological distress. However, men and women often report varying degrees of stress and experience different challenges during migration. While studies have explored PTSD, psychological distress, gender, and resettlement stressors, they have not explored the interplay between these factors. This study aims to address that gap by investigating gender disparities in PTSD and psychological distress among humanitarian migrants in Australia, with a focus on the moderating role of socioeconomic

Age at migration and the risk of psychotic disorders: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the existing evidence on the association between age at migration and the risk of psychotic disorders. METHODS: Observational studies were eligible for inclusion if they presented data on the association between age at migration and the risk of psychotic disorders among first-generation migrant groups. We used two random effects meta-analyses to pool effect estimates for each stratum of age at migration relative to (i) a native-born reference category and (ii) the youngest age stratum (0 to 2 years). RESULTS: Ten studies met incl

Predictive values of QuantiFERON-TB Gold testing in screening for tuberculosis disease in asylum seekers.

Screening with chest X-ray and the Mantoux test (the tuberculin skin test [TST]) is compulsory for adult asylum seekers who arrive in Norway. In 2005-2006, we included 823 asylum seekers in a study of the QuantiFERON-TB Gold test (QFT-G), and followed them for 23-32 months. Eight subjects with a positive and one with a negative QFT-G test were diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB). The positive (PPV) and negative predictive values (NPV) for TB were respectively 3.3% and 99.8%. The PPV was 2.3% and the NPV 99.1% for TST >or= 15 mm, and the NPV was 99.5% for TST >or= 6 mm in combination with a negati
